Some time ago there were complaints on za.* news groups about
(I think) mweb making it difficult to access local web-sites.

At the time, I didn't understand what it was about.

Some weeks back, the excellent Mail & Guardian *.za site became
inaccessable, although still advertised in their paper !

My phone call to the news-paper gets some story about:
* mweb owns 60% of Mail & Guardian,
* the web-site was 'upgraded' and put behing mweb's fire wall,
* why don't I subscribe to mweb.

I've succesfully resisted this kind of strong arm tactics from M$.
Isn't it fraud to advertise an http in the public press, which is inaccessable
except for mweb subscribers ?

....sundaytimes.co.za is also much slower than overseas sites.
Is this also manipulated by mweb ?

Some one please explain the situation.

thanks,
Chris Glur.

www.mg.co.za new site had technical difficulties on roll-out, but seems fine
now.

www.mweb.co.za and others can be accessed via proxy server - no problem.

I'm connecting via ABSA and for the last couple of days, I've gotten access
to www.mg.co.za without problem.

Well if you subscribe to the paper version, then you should ask MG whether
that entitles you access to their web site. If not, you could explain to
them that that is your expectation and that you will cancel your
subscription until such time as they do make it available to their paper
subscribers.

Without money being involved, you are not incurring loss and therefore you
cannot charge that a fraud is occurring.

However it doesn't seem to be blocked at present.

I doubt it.

There are many reasons for a slow down in a web site. You would need to ask
TML about their web site.

first you have to find an international one... try searching for privacy on
www.google.com

then you have to set up your web browser to connect via a proxy server...

Browser:
Tools, Internet Options, Connections, Settings, Use Proxy Server

Use for example:
proxy.claranet.fr
with port:
8080

but there are others also. Turn it off for other browsing since it may slow
you down.
