Hi again all - we just recently set up a new server and updated z-Tree and z-Tree Unleashed. We are finding that in our new setup, the mouse cursor turns into a very tiny dot (instead of the usual, larger arrow). Some of our participants find this really hard to see and difficult to use. Is there a way that we can stop this from happening on our end?

Thank you!

Can you execute

cd ztree-unleashed
git rev-parse HEAD

within the Terminal Emulator and email us the first 6 characters of the output?

The black dot occurs only as a fallback, i.e. when z-Tree does not signal a specific cursor. We have found that this can happen in cases of resource starvation, i.e. if there is not enough RAM or CPU. It may also help to enable RTFs. In most cases, the cause is unknown however and it happens because of complex graphics or many stages being used.

The issue was resolved as follows (in the Terminal Emulator):

cd ztree-unleashed
git pull --all
git checkout static_cursor

Note that this will not work if you are not running the latest Debian version. In that case, update your system first to Debian 11.

The file /etc/os-release contains information about your Debian version. Always remember to keep your software up-to-date.
