Does anyone know if Google is ranking pages at all according to the dates they were originated - ie. do older pages get a better ranking?
The new google algorithm seems to have messed up my rankings for newer pages on various websites, so that has given me a bit of a clue - but it's not a crystal clear relationship.
I have also found that it's a mistake not to weekly resubmit pages, because those I've ignored in the commonly held belief that if Google spiders them through another page they'll get the same ranking anyway, have dropped way down the rankings.
And designers won't like this, but the more text heavy my intro pages are, the better ranking google gives them... I've begun to tell my PR clients to dump their flash intro pages, and concentrate on getting a keyword density of around 24% for the search terms they want.
One other clue to the new algorithm I've found is that if there is less competition for keywords, Google does not rank so heavily in favour of .gov or .org sites, as per the recent chages. I mean, our brand name 'Waterfall D-Mannose' (for which there is zero competition) gets loads of ranking. But I'm having real trouble trying to get 'bladder infection' or 'cystitis' any decent ranking.
I think I've figured out that I'll need to aim for less popular search terms, and then somehow get people top search for those terms.
Any ideas anyone?
