For 80 columns mode you need to use your 128's 80 columns output. If you
have only one monitor / TV connected and just pressed the 80 columns
button you won't see the 80 columns mode although it's there.

yes, but i already have connected my monitor to the 80 columns output plug,
and all the characters are strange, confused and sometimes they blink too!!
surely there is something wrong in some integrated circuit in the main board
!
the other thing i can say is that this problem is present only when i try to
work in 80 columns mode.
how can i solve this problem?
please help !!!!

Hello,

it seams that the 80 columns mode is broken by the special
RAM (afaik 16KByte) or the secound graphics chip inside the C128.
I guess that the memory is defect, this are sensible cmos memory
chips also used on the C16 and C116 as main memory chips.
They are easy to damage and then have the same trouble like your
description.
To exchange you can use the original 16kbit*4 or the general
64kbit*4 chips like in the C64 or used on some old VGA/EGA
PC graphics cards.

If the secound graphics chip is damaged, I suggest to live with this
error or to buy another C128 to exchange. Don´t know if there are
any neu chips to buy somewhere.

regards
Sascha
