It is always slower than the connection speed. For example, my connection
speed today is 44,000 bps while the test shows only 38,000 bps. I also have
a 56k internal modem.
This is the right way to do it. The initial connect speed is shown by
the connect item, and in the event of lost or corrupt packages a lower
speed will be negotiated between the devices. Checking the connect
speed in this way will show what (if?) it has been dropped to. The
speed negotiation only goes down, not up.
