Hello All,

I am looking for some magnification softwae. This is not as easy as it
sounds however. I am a computer technician. I need some magnification
software that can magnify and invert the colors. Most importantly though I
need some software that can be run from a diskette or cd-rom. I do a lot of
traveling and work on many, many different computers. I need something that
I can take with me and run while I'm there without having to worry about
lot of installs and uninstalls and the like. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone
know of a good product that would do this for me?

Thanks for reading,
Dave...

Well, I doubt if it will run from a floppy, but the install from a CD is
pretty quick. Try Lunar. I used it for some years before I needed speech,
and it worked well.

Hi,
Try the Windows 98 version of Microsoft Magnifier. It is a light
window-base magnifier that can invert colors and zoom up to 9 times.
What you need are at least the two files in the \windows\system folder\,
magnify.exe and maghook.dll.

Excellent Idea! Why didn't I think of this one? Oh, yeah, cuz it was too
simple. Thank you very much, this will work until I can find something else
or better if I can.

Probably will work just fine, although you have to manually make the
settings for Magnifier when you start it, provided that you cannot find
the settings file for it. Further more, there might be some DLLs and
other files I forgot. It should complain about missing files if that
happens. With the help of the find feature you should easily be able to
locate the extra files you need.

Running Narrator from a floppy has the advantage of not having to
install extra assistive software on the machine you are working with.
Most users won't mind as long as you get it working <grin>, though.

BTW:
If you need speech, there's the option of getting Narrator out. I think
it's mostly for 2k and XP so might be hard to get on other Windows
platforms even if you have SAPI 4 or 5 and MSAA installed. Besides it
won't fit on a floppy. Still, I'm going to try and see whether I can use
the XP version of Narrator, which can read tooltips and isn't as buggy,
working under Windows 2000.

I puled the magnify.exe and the .dll file mentioned, and yes did a search to
ensure no other files needed. In XP magnify will save your settings in a
file that I believe is a .pt file. I have taken that file as well and
placed them all on a disk. So far tested it on Win 98 and Win XP and works
just fine.

Thanks again for the simply great idea.

I didn't know the settings file thing. also thanks for testing the XP
magnifier in 98, I thought it wouldn't work. I should copy the XP
version over to my 98 machine hoping that they have improved something
in the XP version. It seems I have to update my Magnifier tips as well.

I can tell you that the files are different sizes. That suggests a change
of some type.
