Hi,

Noticed today that I can't open a yWriter 6 project in YWSynch....only looks for yWriter 5 projects.

Is this something I'm doing wrong or is that the case at the moment!?

Thanks

I haven't been doing much writing lately, and I haven't even looked at converting my yw5 projects to yw6 yet.

As I understand it, the main idea behind yWriter6 is to allow editing on iOS and Android using the yWriter apps. Given that, I wasn't sure whether there would be any interest in using ywSynch any more, because it seems a bit redundant.

If you do still want to use ywSynch with yWriter6 files I could have a look at supporting them, although I probably won't use it myself.

I've had a look at the yWriter6 format. I can't really see how I can
make it work usefully with ywSynch.

With the new format, Simon has abandoned rtf and the separate files for
each scene's text. The scene text is now stored in the yw6 project file,
and is in text format with some simple markup of his devising. I can see
why he went for rtf with the original yWriter, but also why he is now
switching to text with markup (he was going to have to do it
eventually). It also makes sense, in that case, to stop storing the
scenes in separate files.

One of the requirements I placed on myself was to not modify the yWriter
project file. Obviously, if I tried to make ywSynch work with yw6 I
would have to break that, but that's not the real problem.

I can't see any good way of extracting the text and putting it back into
the yw6 file that's going to be better than using Simon's apps. If I
pull out the text into separate files, it's not obvious what format I
should use for it. It could be text, with the markup inserted by hand,
or perhaps html if anyone wants to use an html editor on it, but then
html markup would have to be converted to copy it back into the yw6
file. And after all that, I still think that it would be easier to use
Simon's apps.

One other possibility has occurred to me. There was talk a long time ago
about having a web version of yWriter (that could use the same files as
the desktop version). The use of rtf made that almost impossible, but
the new format makes it quite feasible, so I may look at doing that if
enough people are interested (and Simon isn't interested in doing it
himself). It would probably work a lot better for people using Linux,
and Mac users could use it too.
