Courtesy of the French translator for my novels & short stories (who happens to be a Ubuntu Linux user), here is the sequence of commands you need to install yWriter5 on Mac/Linux using Wine and Dotnet30

Starting from ${HOME}:

~$ export WINEARCH=win32
~$ winetricks dotnet30
~$ cd .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files
~$ unzip /path/to/yWriter5.zip

If there's still an issue with margins in the RTF box I'll see what I can do about increasing them in code.

Hi Simon:

Sorry for the naïve question, but you run this command once you
previously installed...

- .NET Framework 3.0 (what you call dotnet30)
- winetricks
- ... something else?

Thanks for you support.

Only Wine is required. Winetricks is part of wine, and it has a built-in downloader and installer for a load of different Windows programs, runtimes and utilities.

If you run winetricks at the command line it will give you more help. You can get a list of supported apps, for example.

Sorry for another post, but: another problem I ran into is that the instructions said to enter the command "export WINEARCH=win32".  I did this and now when I try to run wine yWriter5.exe it tells me:
WINEARCH set to win32 but '/home/gjd/.wine' is a 64-bit installation.

Obviously I shouldn't have run that export command--how do I "undo" that command-- what should I change WINEARCH to be, or how can I get rid of this variable altogether?

I should have learned by now never to blindly enter commands that I don't understand.  What is the WINEARCH variable for anyway?  Is it only used for yWriter or will this setting affect other programs I try to run under wine?  Thanks.
