Ages ago I delivered a German translation file, which, if I'm not mistaken, was adopted by Simon as "Deutsch II (German)". Fortunately, unnamed volunteers seemed to come along to adapt this file from time to time to the progress of yWriter development. Thanks!

However, the included language pack is now somewhat incomplete, and I also found better translations for terms and menu items whose meaning became clearer to me over time.

Therefore I revised the language file "Deutsch2 Unicode.txt". It is neither complete nor perfect, but a small step for the better.

Simon, it would be great if you could integrate this file into the next release.

Those who don't want to wait, can download the language file in the attachment and unpack it into the folder 'C:\Program Files (x86)\yWriter7\Languages'.

Enjoy!

Thanks for that, I'll upload a new beta now.

Simon, you overtook me there, just now I fixed some errors and extended the list significantly. Please find the updated file attached.

The problem is that the included Template.txt file is somewhat outdated. It would not be bad to provide an automatically generated update here someday. When I learn about it, I can clean up and complete the German language file relatively easily via script.

As a temporary solution, I have now combined the messages from all existing language files and sorted them alphabetically. This probably added quite a bit of overhead from obsolete messages, but it is the most complete available at the moment. However, some misplaced Spanish messages came in from the Mexican language file.

In any case, I have commented out the messages that still need to be translated into German, so that the current file can be used. On the upper levels of the yWriter user interface it is already quite complete.

I don't have the time to continue at the moment, so I'm attaching the updated file to this post so volunteers can continue at this point. It's quite easy now that you have the missing messages as comments in the file.
Just be sure to save the file UTF-16 LE-BOM encoded. This is done automatically when using the free notepad++ editor.

By the way, when analyzing the other language files, I noticed two encoding errors:
  • Chinese(Simplified, China).txt is utf-8 encoded
  • Sermon5.txt is ANSI encoded.
Cheers,
Peter

The program will generate a new template.txt by choosing Localise - Create Template.txt

There are many parts of the program which won't automatically convert as the strings (e.g. messageboxes) contain variables.  Other parts are strings embedded in the code from yWriter 3 and 4 days, which I haven't moved into a separate file yet.

One thing I'm interested with finding out in this new Beta release is whether people have any trouble with my new home-brew list control. This is used below the scene list (Chars/Items/Loc), in the same tab as the scene list (same items) and on the scene editor itself (Char/loc/items tabs)

The reason for this new listview is (a) it will obey the colour theming and (b) it's a lot faster and more efficient and configurable than the microsoft control.
