I know that trouble moving scenes and chapters is a known issue, but I recently also had the problem of dragging scenes to a new chapter creating duplicate scenes. Those scenes also couldn't be deleted, leaving an empty N/A scene instead. After closing and reopening the project hoping that might clear it up I got this error:

Renaming and opening the .bak returned the same error.

Currently using the new version (7.1.5.2).

Just to note that the program saves backups of the project to the Autobackups folder with date stamps. You can extract any YW7 file into a new, empty folder and recover from there.

Also, make sure you're not using the old YW5 format - with all the external RTF files this one uses, it's not designed for running from cloud storage and can also run into troubles when Windows decides to virus scan every single scene file as read and written out.

It was a fairly recently created project, so it shouldn't have been in yW5 format (I only updated from an older version of 7 very recently, but I've been using 7 for a bit now, so I think the format should be correct?).

(I did figure out how to recover my stuff from autobackups after posting the original message. It was just a pretty concerning issue so I wanted to make sure that specific problem was documented ASAP since I hadn't seen anything like it mentioned in the other posts I'd seen about the scene dragging bug.)

If you want to email me the log.txt file from the program directly (not on list) I can see what error messages cropped up.

Normally the main cause of an unreadable project is that the project ends up as zero bytes if Windows shuts down/reboots/updates while yWriter is running, and the program tries to save the project.
