Hi - sorry to hear about all the computer troubles.

The autobackups folder inside the project folder is the only place yWriter saves files. It doesn't matter where you install yWriter, as all the data related to a given project is loaded and saved from the project location, not the program's location.  If you run yWriter and view the log file, it will show where the project is being loaded and saved from.

However, there is usually more than one type of backup. Are you using a yw5 or a yw6 project? With the latter, all the partial backup of ..  and full backup of .. archives contain a full copy of the project. with the former, your RTF5 folder contains individual copies of each scene file, and nothing would induce yWriter to blank them all.

Aside from that, there's the ongoing SequentialSceneBackups.zip file inside most of the folders inside the Autobackups folder. Depending on how you've set up yWriter, scenes are stored in this archive with time and date stamps up to every 60 seconds.

Hope that helps

Cheers
Simon

Hi folks,

I sure hope you can help me!

Last night I had to reinstall a clean copy of Windows 7 Ultimate on my C drive. I'd gotten infected with a really bad virus, ended up with corrupted files, had no other choice.

I have 4 drives, and kept my documents on my D drive, C mainly had windows and some program files on it, but not my pictures, documents, and music. My project forlder (ywriter 6) was on the D drive. The old installion of ywriter 6 IS in the windows.old folder on C, but it appears I reinstalled ywriter into the programs (x64) folder I created on the D drive - my digital C drive is small, but my D drive is huge.

Yesterday morning I'd just finished a total rewrite of the 1st chapter of my book. It was perfect, exactly how I want to be in it's final form. I was thrilled. I was experimenting rewriting it in 1st person POV, vs my original 3rd person. So each scene contained both versions, together, and I'd added a new character into the climatic moment and absolutely loved how it tied everything together. I had "save" set to sequential, so there ought to be a ton of saves I could restore from, right?

I saved changes constantly, methodically, to not lose my work. When I opened the project folder an hour ago to get back to work on it, everything is gone. The chapters are there, the scenes are there, but all of the written content is gone. I've got backups, but they are not recent enough, apparently, that they have the rewritten content in them.

I've already spent hours last night and this morning getting drivers updated, installing updates, programs, fixing networking problems, and now this has happened. I'm freaking out, deperate, and devastated! Please tell me my work isn't all gone, forever! Can I undo this somehow? Do I need to move certain old files into the new AppData/Local and Roaming folders? I did not uninstall the old copy of ywriter 6, it's in the windows.old folder on C, untouched, as is the AppData folder.

If you can held me get my work restored, I will be forever grateful, I'll thank you in the published book!
