I'm now using yWriter 7 for my next novel. This will help me to iron out bugs, and ensure it's all working as expected.

On the surface it looks the same, as with yWriter 5 vs 6, but a lot of internal code has been rewritten in order to prepare for a future mac version.

(For the technically minded, I've been moving code into dotnet standard 2.0 class libraries, which will run unchanged on mac, IOS, Android, Windows and Mono/Linux. It required a fair bit of rewriting along the way, but that's enabled me to clean some stuff up.)

I'm also hoping to tackle some of the long-standing yWriter5/6 bugs like undo/redo, losing formatting in yw6, and so on.

Cheers
Simon

When are you looking to release it?

Many thanks for all the posts herein. Also, thank you for this free software.
I am writing to you because I have just downloaded yw5. I was checking to see how I to begin working with the software but soon came across that there is yw6 and also yw7. Insofar as yw5 is concerned, there is also an update 5.2.1.3. Perhaps you can - before I really get into my story writing, advise me which version would be best for me to proceed with. I'd rather find this out now knowing that sometimes the older versions receive no further responses or updates.
I thank you for your assistance and a speedy response.
God bless

Thank you for your input about yW6 and yW7. I have installed yw6 and so far, still reading the notes.

I do hope you are far better at settling in than I am. 15 years later, some of the stuff in the garage has yet to see the light of day.

I really do need to sweep all in the bin or possibly, car-boot-sale one day.

In your notes the links are missing on the following page:

https://sites.google.com/site/ywritersj/q/creating-and-editing

Further information on yWriter UI

Just thought I let you know ... just in case.

Am I missing anything or is such info elsewhere in the manual?

Just a few more pages to go before I have read all the material that comes with the software.

Next will be your example project.

Meanwhile, I have started a “Trial Project 01” with my notes and experience as the contents of the book.

I am still trying to make head and tail of the whole thing with some headway.

Many thanks. I do intend to register ... promise. Once I am back on my home turf.

Currently, I have taken time off from home just to get into some serious writing.

God Bless and Good luck with organising your new home.

Bhasmank

Hi

I just paid gold registration for yWriter6.  I love your software because is easy to use.  I was wondering in a future yWriter can be link or use an editor software like Hemingway, Doc Google, etc.  I was reading that Scriver can be link or use ProWritingAid.

Thank you,
Mayra

Hi

yWriter has an 'edit scene with external editor' feature, but it's only for apps installed locally.

PS thanks for registering!

Cheers

Hi

Thank you for your fast answer.  What kind of external editor I need to buy?.  I installed Ywriter6 in my laptop.  Now, I am trying to find an editing software for it.

Sincerely,
Mayra

Hi

No need to buy, you can use the (free) Libreoffice.

However, yWriter does have an editor built in. That's all I use.

Hi Simon

Thank you again for answer my message. I found 2 freeoffice. Could tell which one I can use? https://www.libreoffice.org and https://libreoffice.en.softonic.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign=rocketroi&campaign=rocketroi

Thank you,
Mayra

Don't mess with Softronic. Go straight to the source and download from libreoffice.org

Definitely the Libreoffice.org link.

(It's a fully-featured Office suite, by the way. The last Microsoft Office I used was Office '97, which I still  have on CD somewhere.)

Cheers

If you don't want to download an entire office suite just to get a decent word processor, then AbiWord <https://www.abisource.com/> is another option as well.

Oops!

Nevermind.

Apparently they no longer support Windows. If you run Linux, it's still an option. :)

Hola Simon. Me agrada ver este avance. Terminé mi primera novela y he querida IMPORTARLA a iWriter6 , pero no he podido. Aunque no he podido familiarizarme con las anteriores versiones, espero disfrutar aprendiendo hasta que logre hacerlo. Felicitaciones. Leonardo Gutiérrez

yWriter 7 will load/save in yw5/6/7 format.  Bear in mind the portable versions don't support yw7 yet - working on that.

To import a work in progress, you need to save your original as an RTF file.

(Lo siento, pero esta escrito en ingles)

Thanks Simon,

By portable do you mean phone/tablet versions? What about it living on a usb which is my normal modus operandi.

Sorry, yes - I used portable as a shorthand for mobile. (I've already added yw7 support to the IOS/Android versions, but there's an issue with google drive where I simply cannot work out how to support multiple file extensions.)

The PC version on USB will be fine.
