searching for text string

I see a ID number for each scene. By any chance, would there be any way to access a scene by just that number? Searching for text will show me the scene, but not where it is or in what chapter. I was thinking that if I typed the number at the beginning of the scene, I could locate that scene somehow. I'm not a programmer and don't know coding but would like to find a reasonable solution within yWriter. I appreciate any help on this matter.

Are you using the latest Alpha? That definitely jumps to the right scene and highlights the word in the preview window each time you press F3 for find/find next.

One thing I can do is update the find/replace form so there's a button to show all matches in a list view.

This will be in the next Alpha.  List All is the new bit.

Double-clicking a row displays that chapter/scene and highlights the word.

Hi Simon, 

I'm not the original poster but that looks cool.  

BTW, in my version of yWriter 7 (which is 7.1.3.0 so not actually the most up to date version) F3 works just as you say it does in Alpha, each time it's pressed it goes to the next result, highlighting the exact place of the word within the preview panel, and also the scene list above highlights on the correct scene, and you can clearly see which chapter it is because that's also highlighted on the left margin. I would be lost without all this. So I didn't understand what the original poster was doing unless later versions of 7 don't work that way?

Older versions (including the current Release version and probably the Beta) had issues with find and highlighting the right item.

I always use the Alpha for my own work, but I'm also reluctunt to make it a new Beta or Release version in case wider use shows up some bug I've missed.

It's probably about time I promoted the Alpha to a Beta at least, and then see if more eyes on it finds any major issues.

Thanks for responding. Now that I have the function keys locked on my keyboard, the F3 key works, and I do see the chapter where the search string is. Not sure if it will show me the particular scene in that chapter. But F3 works within the scene. So maybe it was operator error all along. But my stress level is down.
