I bought the other two. Details here: http://www.spacejock.com/yRead.html

(Each voice is a 600 mb download, which is why they're high quality.)

Hope I am posting in the right place. I have a question about this
feature.

The Microsoft Sam voice is perfect for my project so I don't want
another voice, but I was hoping someone could tell me why there is an
echo in the sound. Is it something in my system, the sound card maybe,
or is it just the nature of the beast? Is there an adjustment that
might help?

Thanks

Do you have a microphone connected to the computer or perhaps the computer contains a built-in microphone?  If so, the microphone could be picking up the audio from the speaker.

Many sound cards add an icon to the system tray (e.g. Realtek, etc) If you double-click that, look for an environment setting. If it's set, change it to None.

I don't think you can set just the voice to echo, unless it's reading two scenes at once.

Hi,
I have been using yWriter for quite some time and love reading all the post from various users. I sometimes wonder if in our desire to have everything we want written into the software we are not making it more cumbersome.Thank you Simon for allowing us to use your work for free and for being so patient with all of us who use it.

In relation to the echo/feedback of Microsoft Sam, I also have that annoying echo problem. I have adjusted the speaker and equalizer and I am hoping the problem will be resolved soon.

Congratulations for being featured in The Writers. I recommended yWriter to members of the 12 groups that I subscribe to on
LinkedIn. Don't mean to give you this additional headache Simon, but I am thinking once people get to yWriter/Spacejock, they will discover as I have your amazing writing.

Cheers

Thanks! Actually, there's something I never thought of ... if my publisher dropped me (which happens), and I decided not to write any more novels, then I probably wouldn't develop yWriter any more either.

Fortunately I'm the positive sort, and I'm currently flat out working on my fifth Hal Spacejock novel. I have three more planned after that, plus I'm hoping to write a pair of childens' books later this year.

No icon in system tray.

Not trying to make an echo. Trying to get rid of one.

Thanks.

If there's no icon in the system tray, try Start/Settings/Control Panel,
then Sounds and Audio Devices (if it's XP) or just Sounds (if it's Vista).
Every sound card and driver is different, but you should be able to tell how
to get at the settings once you're in there. My Vista desktop supports
exactly the kind of echo that you describe, and it can be turned on or off
(a slight echo makes music sound more like you're at a live concert, if you
like that effect - like it's bouncing off arena walls). My XP laptop has
separate settings for 'audio' and 'voice', but there's no option for echoing
the voice, which I suspect is what Simon meant. Anyway, since you're the
only one reporting an echo, I'd look there and make very sure it isn't
something in your audio settings if I were you.

Thanks for trying to help. I found the settings in Control Panel but
nothing is there to reset or change. I'm using XP, sp2. Guess I'm out
of luck on this one.

Thanks again.

That's why I got the other voices.

They both work well.
