What am I doing wrong?

When I go to spell check something, I get what you see in the picture. (Typos are deliberate.) I've never had this problem before. Thanks!

One you start typing after a mis-spelled word, all the text will remain red unless you (A) do a manual spell check or (B) have automatic spell check turned on.
