I've finished writing and editing my novel, but have not exported it
to begin the formatting process prior to printing. I have seen
several suggestions to do an export to RTF. A couple questions about
that.
1. Does it export it automatically to Word if you use this process or
do I have to go through another step before it gets there?
2. How should I backup my project prior to exporting?
2. Does exporting affect the project in YWriter? As in, if I export,
is is gone as a project in YWriter or does the export just send out a
copy and leave the original intact?

Sorry is these questions sound naive, but I have worked on this book
for three years and although my computer is backed up with Carbonite,
I am absolutely terrified that something might happen to this book.
Thanks for your help!

It produces a .rtf file, which you can then open in Word. Just treat it
as a .doc file with a different extension.

There's no need to do anything special.

The .rtf file is a separate copy of the book. Exporting doesn't change
anything in the yWriter project.

This is my first post here instead of trolling around reading the posts and I get to respond to a question!

Rich Text Format (RTF) is a standard format readable by any word processor. Microsoft Word can read it as easily as it's own native format so don't worry. Just export it to RTF and then open it in word.

Your original work in YWriter is untouched so you still have your work intact. All yWriter does is create a collated copy of what you've already done.

As far as backing up is concerned, just use your normally backing up procedure. I use Dropbox to synchronise my files across my PC, netbook and laptop (it provides offsite storage as a by product), and have my yWriter folder backed up every day onto an external Hard Drive as well as a copies on the multiple RAID array hard drives in my Desktop PC. You can never be too careful.

Regards

Carl
