Hi, I'm wondering if this feature is working as intended in my version
(5.1.0.6 beta) of yWriter.

In the Scene > Details tab one can select a number of details about
the scene in question. One of these is the group of radio buttons
labelled 'Action' Reaction' and (together) labelled 'Type of Scene'

Then at the bottom of the Scene > Details window there are three text
boxes labelled: Goal, Conflict Outcome (in green gold and red
respectively)

Cleary
• when you select the Action radio button then Goal, Conflict Outcome
is correct.
• when you select the Reaction radio button the labelled at the bottom
of the Scene > Details window marked Goal, Conflict Outcome SHOULD
change to Reaction, Dilemma Decision.

BUT they don’t! Well not immediately. In fact you have to close the
scene (Save & Exit) then REOPEN the scene before the labels change to
Reaction Dilemma Decision. The same applies if you want to change the
scene type back to Action. You have to exit the scene and re-enter it
before Reaction, Dilemma Decision change back to Goal Conflict
Outcome.

Is this a bug or the way this feature is intended to work?

This is probably because Simon added the Goals feature to the Scene
Dialog in your version of yWriter.

In my version (5.0.8.8), Goals is a tab under the Scene List in the
Main Dialog. I cannot change the Type of Scene without opening the
Scene Dialog. When I change the Type from Action to Reaction (or vice
versa), the Goals are not visible anywhere in the Scene Dialog. When I
exit the Scene Dialog, the three labels are refreshed there. (In other
words, it works that way for me, as well.)

So since Simon must have added the Goals to the Scene Dialog's Details
tab, perhaps he forgot to update the three labels there as the time
you select the Scene Type radio button. The reason it is correct after
you close and re-open the Details Dialog is: he updates those fields
in the Main Dialog upon exiting the Details Dialog, and he sets the
Details Dialog version of those labels when you open it.

Bottom line: It's a bug with a work-around.

The three fields are maintained whether it is an Action or Reaction
type scene. The only danger is that if you don't know about it, you
might change the contents of the fields while you're in the Details
Dialog to match the erroneous labels. Then when you close it, voila:
the labels are now correct, but your text for them isn't!

Simon will probably fix it, if he hasn't already done so.

Hi,

I've also noticed that the Scene Type Goals refresh of you click
'previous' 'next' to leave and return to the Scene Details window. So
this is another workaround to force the action/Reaction text box
lables to allign to the Scene Type selection.

I don't think its just my version, I remember seing the action /
reaction buttons and the Goal Conflict Outcome text boxes in the Scene
Details window in earlier versions.

But yes, its a feature that doesn't work effectivly or as you put it
a bug with a work around

Thanks for confirming this
