Linux page on yWriter site and no Linux in the future?

Every time I've gone to this page on the yWriter site it has been blank. Why is this page blank?

In other news, I remember years ago when Simon said he'd never make a Linux or iOS version (I believe he also said iOS), and now I see Android and iOS versions moving on up. I think that's great, but I've never seen any hope for a Linux version. I understand it's the low man on the totem pole, and I feel like it isn't of any interest to Simon especially with everything else going on, so should I just give up hope of ever seeing a Linux version?
[I am aware of Wine and PlayOnLinux. I tried Wine when I first left Windows and it stunk, and I've heard horror stories about POL, so I have no interest in anything other than a version made for Linux.]
Thanks

The only reason there are android and ios versions in the pipeline is because Microsoft finally added support for those platforms to the programming environment I've been using for the past 22 years. They haven't added Linux (or MacOS).

yWriter and wine isn't the solution, yWriter and Mono is. If you install mono (which is present by default on ubuntu), then running

mono yWriter5.exe

or

mono yWriter6.exe

should bring up the program.

Many linux programs are written in mono, I probably just need to write some kind of wrapper to remove this one step.

Incidentally, all the ywriter 6 web pages use content from the ywriter 5 ones, since it's the same program. It looks like I missed out an include.

Which linux distro do you use? On linux Mint, based on Ubuntu, I've had very few problems running any Windows program, including yWriter5. I haven't tried yWriter6 yet, mainly because until recently it was identical to 5 just updated for Windows 8.

Wine has come a long way in the past few years, especially if you add in mono support. (I know wine and mono aren't the same thing but there is a wine-mono package wine will download and install automatically if needed since version 1.5.6).

I've found the newer versions of wine run just about everything with few problems. For me it's usually forgetting to run the 64bit version of wine for a 64bit program.

Hope this helps some.

I found no problem installing yWriter6 on Linux Mint using 'mono' once I ensured all the dependencies were installed, which took a bit of figuring out.

That's why, for the past 20 years, I've never used a third-party control in my software. (By 'Control', I mean addons and special bits and pieces. Instead, I write everything myself from scratch.)

It might actually be 22 years, give or take. I was using Red Hat Linux 2.0 around 1995.

Okay, will check it out. I've created a batch of PCL libraries but while they target everything including MacOS I've not seen any for Linux.

Ahh, it's C++. I didn't install it as I only use VB and C#

I'll check it out anyway, because if the back-end will use portable class libraries then I could always knock up a user interface in c++

Hi KL. Thanks for your response. I'm currently using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (thinking of changing things up a bit though.) It has probably been a year since I tried Wine, but I believe I had only been using Linux for a short while when I tried it, and Linux can be a lot to take in for newbies. I'm relatively sure I did not have mono support. It may be worth a second look. :)

Well, that certainly makes sense, Simon. Support is key. A while back (probably a year or so ago), I remember hearing a lot about Microsoft providing support for Linux. I know little about it, but it caused a lot of chatter on Linux forums. Maybe times are changing. I hope so anyway. I really miss using yWriter. And as Todd C. mentioned, there is support in Visual Studio now.

Yes, the dependencies are what worries me. If mono is installed on Ubuntu by default, then I may not have have necessary dependencies installed to ensure it would work properly.

I've been using Linux Mint for the last several versions. On 17.3 now. For some reason Mono has never worked for me. Supposedly it's present and accounted for, but it has never worked from either menu or terminal.

On Linux Mint 17, mono won't run yWriter6.exe: "The entry point method

Earlier versions of yWriter ran with mono but there were quirks, so I
used Wine and it was just about perfect. But I'm having trouble with
yWriter6, at least so far, but I need to do a clean Wine install and
