Simon, do you have any control over what appears on the list of files when I right click ywriter on the task bar in windows 7?

After upgrading to windows 7, I discovered that I can right click on yWriter which I keep pinned to the task bar, and it displays a list of files I can open.

This is NOT the same list as RECENT PROJECTS from within yWriter.  Creating the new project did not land it on the list.  Neither did opening it from yWriter recent projects.  I had to open it from the folder I created for it to get it on the list.

So, it might be out of your control and purely a windows 7 thing.  I don't know if this function even exists in windows 8 (does it have a taskbar?)

Anyway, if you can control this, it would be cool to have the create project or open recent projects put it on the list.

No biggie, just a nice small thing.

The taskbar list is a variant of the Recent Documents list, which is a Windows thing (I think Vista, 7, and 8, but I only have 7 currently to check).  I don't know if Simon has any way to control it from within the application.  The list shown in Recent Projects within yWriter is maintained in the yWriter.ini file, which Windows obviously doesn't know how to use.  I suspect that never the twain shall meet, but I could be wrong.

I suspect so as well, but I thought, maybe after creating a new project, he could execute the project file so it would open yWriter, and maybe that would put it on the list.

I can’t replicate the initial problem.  If I open an old project it gets put on the Windows 7 task bar icon.  Same if I just create a new project and exit.

This is an installed version – not running off a USB stick or anything.

Windows 7 takes its information for the Jump lists from it's own registry record record of which files were previously opened. The Jumps lists can be cleared when housekeeping Windows. Windows doesn't access yWriter's internal record to identify which files to add to a Quickstart icon's jump list.

And yes, Win 8 does possess a
T
askbar. The Win 8 Desktop isn't the same as the god awful Start screen which can act as a launch point to run desktop applications such as yWriter.
On the other hand Win 8's desktop doesn't possess a Start Button - moving out of the desktop (which doesn't close it), merely returns you to the Start Screen leaving the Desktop running in the background.
yWriter isn't a Win 8 App and so only runs from the Desktop; which also means that if you have the Win 8 RT version you can't run yWriter or any other desktop program, unfortunately.

Regards

Carl
