I'm rather new to yWriter and have a question.  I am using yWriter to build story outlines to give to a friend who is willing to flesh them out into stories for me.  I was wondering if there was some way to write a character description, export it, and then import it into other outlines (as opposed to re-typing everything each time).

I was initially thinking the the Import/Export commands would work, but the FAQ warns against exporting a chapter from one story and importing it into another.  I was concerned that this warning also applies to character imports/exports.  I assume that it would, so I'm wondering if there is a way of doing this

Thank you

Why don't you just try exporting and importing characters using the built-in function?

main menu > Project > Export Data > Characters

This creates a character file "ExportedCharacters.xml" in the "Export" subfolder that you can use over and over again.
Import it with:

main menu > Project > Import into current project > Characters

Another way is to create an empty project with only the characters and then copy that for new projects.

Another possibility: Assign all the characters you want to transfer to an empty scene and transfer it via clipboard into the new yWriter project. This can be done with the scene context menu (right click on the scene).

Cheers,
Peter

Just now I noticed that you can also transfer individual characters from the selection list via clipboard.
Make a copy of your project and try around until you find the method that works for you.
