Hello! I recently got a Chromebook and was wondering if there is a known timeline for the release of the Android version of yWriter. Been using yWriter for years and looking forward to starting new projects on my new device!

Hi - I'm actually waiting for dotnet Maui to stabilise, and then I need to see if I can use the new UI for Android. Last time I tried it was still alpha and a lot of features were missing from the programming language, and then I got really busy.

That's great, thank you so much for the response, and I apologize for the duplicate question.

I am considering loading linux on this thing and seeing if it'll run yWriter5, lol. Will report back if successful.

If you install Wine and then Dotnet 4.8 under Wine, you should be able to run yWriter7

I am happy to report success in installing the linux version, with lots of help from my partner who was a linux sysadmin in a previous life. It's running yWriter5 but is saving files in .yw7 format, which is fine by me.

Thanks again for all the hard work you put into this!! It's my favorite app of all time. I think I've been using it for 15 years.

On an almost related subject, how can I support your work? I found a patreon but it looked like it hadn't been updated in a bit -- would it still be helpful to become a patron there?

Ahh, this is why. Tried to hook up my Dropbox, it failed,  I tried to do a reinstall of ywriter, and I discovered it wasn't in the Play store anymore.
I find yWriter suits both my writing habits and platform needs very well when I can have it on Windows and Chromebook both, so I am very eager to have it working on Chromebooks again soon.

Hey, can I ask for an update on this?
I feel like it's a bit pushy, and I'm sorry if that's rude-- I'm deciding whether to move forward with purchasing a portable Windows device as opposed to my existing hardware (I use a Chromebook out of the house and formerly could use yWriter on it). I'll work myself out, but knowing what the future might look like will help a lot.
(also, seconding Patreon info-- is that preferable?)

For the time being I'm not working on it.

I need to use .net Maui for the Android version, and previously I put in a lot of work only to find it wasn't even ready for production. Now it's been updated a few more times, but there's still the issue of google drive integration. The old method was tossed out by google, and the new method is either unsupported in .net OR it's just really badly documented. (I spent months getting the original version to work only for Google to throw the whole API out in the middle of the pandemic.)

One burned twice shy, so I'll wait for the tools to stabilise and for proper documentation to be available before I wade into that particular whirlpool again.
