Export Project to Docx doesn't always honour font formatting

I'm using v7.1.5.2.

In the Scene Editor, the text is correctly shown when italicised. When opening the scene in my default RTF Editor (MS Word, in my case), the text also shows correctly when italicised. When applying italics, I apply it via the Font options (or by hitting CTRL+I).

I recently started using the Export Project to Docx format to supply me editor with Word copies for editing/proofing. However,  I found that the export doesn't always honour when Italics are applied to text so text that should be italicised isn't in the exported Docx file.

Are you italicising whole paragraphs, or just works inside a paragraph? Is it the former that's not working correctly?

Hi Simon,

It's a mixture - sometimes it's a whole paragraph, sometimes it's only words within a paragraph. In both cases, the export is not honouring the italics consistently. For example, in one scene I have multiple paragraphs and individual words italicised. In the export, only some of the paragraph and only some of the words retain their italics.

I've done some more testing and it looks like it's an issue in MS Word when I update the Style properties. Got to love it when products try to be 'smart' by creating more manual work for the user.

The fix (for me) was to create a custom Character Style, then do a Find (Italics) and Replace (custom Character Style) first, before updating the Paragraph Styles.

Ah, okay. Good to know.

I did have a plan to incorporate styles into the docx instead of just applying italics, but I was just happy to get it working properly in the first place and then moved on to another task.
