Seeing as yWriter is no longer on the play store,  Does anybody know of a location to obtain the apk file so I could sideload it?

I'm OK to use it in it's current state without being able to write up to Google Drive, but it would be good to have it on the phone & tablet...

I can put an APK on my website - but I need to get the app working again first. (Last time I loaded the code I'd started hiding the google drive button and the code behind it. I didn't have time to work on it, so I left it like that.)

The last thing I was working on was the ability to click a file in Google drive and have it open in yWriter, bypassing the entire process of authorising with google drive etc.  Unfortunately, each time I opened a file it opened a new copy of the ywriter app.

I've spent the last 2 weeks working on yWriter PC, by the way.  I've created my own custom list control to replace the default Microsoft one, and I've been debugging that.

Actually, as yWriter Android/IOS is built on the very old Xamarin Forms platform, I've decided to write it from scratch using .Net Maui. (Microsoft's new cross-platform language.)

Previously I had to work on the android and IOS code separately, but Maui is cross-platform, including Windows. Most of yWriter is contained in a pair of DLLs that work on anything, so I basically have to recreate the user interface and hook it up to the code behind the scenes. Not a trivial undertaking, but much easier than messing around with the old code.

Unfortunately XCode (for IOS compiling) is already set to MacOS 12 as a minimum, and my Mac Mini barely made it to MacOS 10 - that was 2 updates past where it was allowed to go, thanks to a 3rd party tool.

I'm not buying another Mac only to see it useless in 2 years time, so I'll stick with yWriter Android.

I can start the new app and load a project into it, so that's a good start.

It doesn't have anything to display or edit the project yet. I don't know how Maui handles the commandline/loading specified files yet, either.

There are services you can subscribe to that you can rent time for testing and building on specific environments. Then you dont need the hardware. I agree that the used by date on these expensive bricks has gone way out of control.

I have macOS Monterey installed in VirtualBox on my Windows PC and use
that  when compiling for macOS, iOS, etc.

I use virtualbox for linux and windows, but I've heard Apple can get antsy about the use for mac.
