yWriter Alpha

I want to use yWriter alpha. I have downloaded the zip file and installed it. However, I am not sure if I have the alpha file or not. Is there an ID in yWriter somewhere that would indicate the alpha version?

The version number indicates whether it's the alpha

The zip file contains 'yWriter7_details.txt' and if you open that, you'll see this:

7.1.6.1 ALPHA Added a new character report which shows every sentence every character is mentioned in
7.1.6.0 ALPHA the storyboard now has options to filter out unused scenes and scenes in the trash folder. (Default is to not show them)
7.1.5.9 ALPHA various fixes, including now being able to drag chapters more than one position upwards in the list at a time.
7.1.5.8 BETA over-tall windows should be shortened to fit your desktop automatically. (For cases where users make them taller on a high resolution screen, then switch to a lower resolution.)
7.1.5.7 BETA added more code to scroll list views when using the mouse wheel
7.1.5.6 BETA Considerable changes to the integrated epub exporter

so if you have 7.1.6.1 or later, that's the current alpha

For some reason, I am  having no luck getting my yWriter7Alpha past my Windows 10 firewall. I am still working on it.
