Hi everyone.

Please, get up from the floor. Yes, you can use your chair to steady
yourselves. I know that receiving two newsletters from me within such a short
period of time-- 5 1/2 months-- is a shocker, but I wouldn't want anyone to hurt
themselves.

Here's what I have to share this go-around:

NOW:
The First Name Reverse Dictionary, 2nd Edition -- At the request of McFarland,
I went in and expanded this reference book, which was first published in 1993.
It's now 40% bigger, and in case you're not familiar with the concept, it's like a
baby name dictionary, but in reverse-- you look up your subject and it lists
names that carry that definition. It's a great tool for writers and parents-to-be.
Plus this time, it has a mondo cool cover. I call it "Snakes On A Book." No,
don't ask-- I have no idea why they put a snake on there. It also has a sliced
pear on it, plus a couple of other things. Check it out here:

Check out the newly launched Sony eBook Store: http://ebookstore.sony.com/.
This is a program that makes your computer screen look like an open book...
literally. You can download the software for free at
http://ebooks.bordersstores.com/content/borders/index.html. Why am I
including this here? Because if you go to the eBook Store and type "Yvonne
Navarro" in the search box, you'll find a whole bunch of stuff is available. The
selection includes several tie-in novels (Hellboy, Elektra, Buffy, etc.) and even a
ghost story called "A Beacon Shall I Shine" (from Lighthouse Hauntings). "A
Beacon Shall I Shine" is only 99 cents. When was the last time you found a
ghost for that amount of cheap?

Anyone speak Romanian? If so, check out the interview of me by Romanian
reporter Anca Corostiuc of the Transilvania Expres at
http://www.transilvaniaexpres.ro/index.php?mod=articol&id_articol=79130.

MARCH 2008:
Catch me at the World Horror Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah!
(http://www.whc2008.org/). At the Horror Writers of America Banquet, I'll be co-
presenting (with Dennis Etchison) the Bram Stoker Award for Superior
Achievement in an Anthology. Husband Weston Ochse will also be there,
presenting the Bram Stoker for Superior Achievement in a First Novel. The
awards ceremony will be broadcast live at http://www.iscifi.tv/live/.

Here's my schedule:

*Thursday - 3/27 at 9:00 p.m. -- Panel: Horrific Folklore. Horror fiction has
always drawn from folk tales and legends. What is it about folklore that touches
our psyche? (Gerard Houarner, Yvonne Navarro, Michael Potts, Steve Rasnic
Tem, JoSelle Vanderhooft)
*Friday - 3/28 at 11:00 a.m. -- Panel: *How (and why) to write romance into your
horror. (Yvonne Navarro, Stephen Woodworth, James Gurley, Heather
Graham?, Lynn César)
*Friday - 3/28 at 1:30 p.m. -- Reading, 1/2 hour, story or novel excerpt to be
decided.
*Friday - 3/28 at 8:00 p.m. -- Mass Autograph Signing
*Saturday - 3/29 at 1:00 p.m. -- Panel: Pacing is everything. Do you have ups
and downs? One long, slow climb? How do you pace your story for maximum
impact? (Yvonne Navarro, Adam Niswander, Stephen Woodworth, Bill
Breedlove, Roberta Lannes)
*Saturday - 3/29 at 9:00 p.m. -- HWA Bram Stoker Awards Presentations
*Sunday - 3/30 at 11:00 a.m. -- Panel: Supporting a Writer. Spouses of
writers have a very unique challenge. How do you support a writer financially
and emotionally? (Stephen Woodworth, Lynn César, Yvonne Navarro, Ann
Laymon)

This is the busiest I've been at a convention in a long time! By the way,
convention attendees will be able to pick up a copy of The First Name Reverse
Dictionary at a discounted price. I also have flyers with this discount on them,
which are available via email. Just let me know (v...@yvonnenavarro.com).

MAY 2008:
On the night of May 2nd, or technically the morning of May 3rd, at the
unbelievable hour of 3:00 a.m. (yes, A.m.), I'll be joining some friends from work
and we'll participate in the American Cancer Society's Sierra Vista Relay for
Life. There were a number of people in my life who went to eternity far too
early because of different forms of this disease, and I'll dedicate my walk in this
ACS relay to the memory of two of them: Richard, an online friend from
LiveJournal, who was a year younger than me when he left us on March 7,
2007, and my wonderful friend, Dorothy Harrington, who was the age I am now
when she died in the mid-1990s. Please visit my ACS page at
http://main.acsevents.org/goto/yvonnenavarro, where you'll see a picture of me
with a snake ("Snake on a Von!") and, if you so choose, feel free to donate a
couple of dollars to this most worthy of research causes.

JULY 2008:
Coming up this summer is one of my favorite cons, NECON, and I'll be there
with bells on. Check it out here: http://www.campnecon.com

SEPTEMBER 2008:
Horror World -- Yours truly will be the featured author in September 2008, and
there will be an original story up there (yet to be decided upon) and neat stuff
like that. I'm telling everyone now because most people know just how, er,
"often" I send out newsletter updates. So mark your calendar and check out
Horror World here: http://www.horrorworld.org/

OCTOBER 2008:
The Horror Book of Lists -- Coming in October of this year, my list in here is
"Yvonne Navarro's 13 Favorite Movie Creatures." You get the full gambit, from
creatures to angels, and why I just love them sooooo much.
In the realm of the personal, life is okay. Goblin and The Ghost are doing fine,
and last fall we acquired a people-loving parakeet, which we named (Edwina
Allen... because it's a girl) Poe. Goblin recently had 14 stitches in his side,
where a cyst removal turned into a mass removal, but all tests and Goblin
himself are now fine. He thinks the scar is manly. Work is very busy, both at
work (ha ha) and at home.

Finally, I've made a much-needed update to (most of) my website. I really like
the new design and layout-- it's more in keeping with today's clean, striking
setups. It includes links to my LiveJournal, Blob, er, Blog, Facebook, Linked-In,
etc. Hey-- pin yourself on my Frappr Map (which I think is just plain old cool).
Since time is precious, I'll have to get to the older book and miscellaneous
pages eventually, but please let me know what you think of the main design.
Here's the location: http://www.yvonnenavarro.com

Yipes -- this was a long one, wasn't it? Sorry about that! I didn't realize I had
so much to tell until I started typing. Now I'm too danged tired to proofread, so
'cuse any typos. Next time I'll try to be more witty, maybe like my friend Simon
Wood. If I can't think of anything, I'll just copy from his newsletter. (Are you
reading this, Simon?)

Thanks for reading, and I sure hope spring hurries up!

Yvonne
