Okay, so Desert Ramblings - Vol 1 may sound a little pretentious, being as I
haven't sent one of these out in quite some time. Okay, so I haven't -ever- sent
one out to this Google groups I created, but everyone has to start somewhere,
right?
I have a few little things to share, and since one is coming up on October 13th
(hence the finally-get-off-my-backside and send a newsletter action), here we
go:
Appearances:
Oct 13th - The Valencia Branch Library, 202 W. Valencia Road, Tucson,
Arizona. I'll be there with Lorelei Shannon and husband Weston Ochse. We'll
be talking horror in a roundtable discussion type of thing, Q&A, etc. We'll also
have some books available (the ones which are out of print), if you're interested
in such. Come on down and say hi. It's been awhile since I did anything public,
and I promise (a) not to bite anyone, and (b) not to get in trouble. Much.
Nov. 9-11th - TusCon 34 (http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebasfa/). This long-
running Arizona convention is being held at at the InnSuites Hotel in Tucson,
AZ. Military science fiction author John Ringo is the GOH. Weston will be
there, as well as Ed Bryant, Liz Danforth, and a whole bunch of other fabulous
and friendly authors and artists.
Nov. 17th - Gadsden Hotel Centennial Celebration. I'll be there along with
husband Weston (he just keeps stalking me, ha ha) and author Jeff Mariotte. I
also have hopes that artist/author Liz Danforth will be attending. This 100th
birthday celebration takes place in historic Douglas, Arizona, just a few miles
from the Mexican border. There will be a four-hour block of time where you can
talk to the authors, artists, craftspeople and other local Arizona talent, followed
by a cocktail hour, formal dinner, then dancing. The Gasden boasts a forty-two
foot (yes, that's 42') Tiffany stained glass window. It also has vaulted stained
glass skylights that run the full length of the lobby. It's unlike anything you've
ever seen. Check out the Gasden at this link:

Publication News (I'm going back a bit, since I haven't seen out a newsletter in
so long):
Published in September, 2007, in DOORWAYS #2, was a reprint of "Each Day
is a Century." Here's the DOORWAYS MySpace page:
http://www.myspace.com/doorwaysmagazine
Published in June, 2007, in BOOK OF DEAD THINGS (a Twilight Tales
Anthology), was a reprint of "Dad Brings a Deader Home." Check it out here:
http://twilighttales.com/book?code=deadthings
Published in May 2006, in the anthology - MONDO ZOMBIE (Cemetery Dance
Publications), was "Feeding the Dead Inside." This story highlights my
patience, as I waited almost fourteen years (yes, YEARS) to see it published.
The payoff was pretty good, though-- the story was one of the finalists for the
2006 Bram Stoker in the category of short fiction. Check out the anthology
here: http://www.cemeterydance.com/sh/skipp01.html
First appearing on Amazon.com in November, 2005 was "Healer," in the
Amazon.com Shorts section. "Healer" won the fiction contest at the World
Horror Convention in Atlanta a few years back. It's available to everyone as a
download for only 49 cents if you go here:

Well, that's about it. Fall is coming, so temps are starting to drop here in the
high desert of Arizona. We still have lots of warm sunshine during the day,
though. Goblin and The Ghost are doing fine, as is the husband and the rest of
the family. Hope you enjoyed the first "issue" of Desert Ramblings. Drop by
the LJ link below to see pictures of the Danes and glimpses into desert life.
Happy pre-Halloween!
Yvonne
