I installed yumex-nextgen and it is a great program, but after I close it I can't open it again because it gives an error saying "yum extender is already running."  I tried killall yumex-nextgen and it stops something but I still get the error when I click on the icon.

when you click the "X" on the yumex window then the window just hides, you can press the notification icon in the notification area to show the window again.
You have to use the "Quit" toolbar button to close yumex.

If it somehow get messed up you can  run "yumex-nextgen --exit' in a command line, it will make the dbus daemons used by yumex shutdown, and you should be able to start yumex-nextgen again

Moving your mouse quickly to the bottom right should display the Message Tray. If it doesn't work, use Super+M (windows key+M).
