Requesting in Pakistan a Schengen visa for the Netherlands

If you are visiting the Netherlands for a maximum of 90 days – for example for a holiday, business trip or family visit – you can apply for a Schengen visa. Follow the steps below to apply in Pakistan.

Step 1: Check before you apply

Before you start your application, check whether you need a visa for the Netherlands and if so, where you can apply.

Do I need a visa?

To enter the Netherlands, one does not always need a visa. Verify if you require a visa in order to enter the Netherlands if you are unsure about what applies to you.

If you are planning to apply for a Schengen visa for Finland, check with the Finnish embassy which visa requirements apply to you.

Check which documents you do need to travel to the Netherlands if you do not require a visa.

Where can I apply for a visa?

To apply for a Schengen visa in Pakistan, go to the VFS Global application centre in Islamabad, Karachi or Lahore. You can apply there if you live in one of the following places:

Pakistan
Afghanistan

If you live elsewhere, go to the Apply for a Schengen visa page and select the country you live in to see where you can apply. If you do want to apply in Pakistan, check first if that is possible.

Verify whether you may submit a visa application outside of your home country.

Step 2: Assemble the necessary paperwork
Several documents are required in order to apply for a Schengen visa. Depending on why you are travelling, different documentation are required.

Family member of an EU/EEA or Swiss national?

If you are travelling with a family member who is a national of an EU/EEA member state or Switzerland, or if you are travelling to visit that family member, you may be eligible for free Schengen visa facilitation.

Step 3: Make an appointment

After obtaining all the necessary documentation for your Schengen visa application, schedule a meeting with VFS Global. Up to six months prior to your travel, you can apply for your visa. Apply no later than forty-five days before to departure.

How do I make an appointment?

Making an appointment is free. Do not make an appointment with an intermediary, as they will charge you a fee.

If you are applying for a visa for multiple people, make a separate appointment for each person.

Can someone else submit my application for me?

Even if you are under 18, you still need to show up in person for your appointment in order to submit your application.

Exception

You do not have to appear in person to submit your application if:

You have applied for a Schengen visa in person within the past 5 years (59 months), and:

You have submitted a photo with that application, and:

Your fingerprints were taken for that application (only applies if you are 12 years or older).

You can ask someone else to submit your application on your behalf if you satisfy all three requirements. The person who submitted your application must be the one making the appointment.

You have to turn in your application in person if you are unsure if VFS Global has recorded your fingerprints. This cannot be checked for you by VFS Global.

Step 4: Go to your appointment

Go to your appointment at VFS Global and bring all the documents on your checklist from step 2, plus the checklist itself.

What happens during my appointment?

During your appointment:

submit the documents on your checklist, along with your passport

give your fingerprints (only if you are 12 years or older)

answer questions about your trip

pay the visa fee

indicate whether you want to collect your passport (with visa on it) or have it sent to you

receive a reference number to track the status of your application

You must always pay a service fee to VFS Global.

How long does it take for my application to be processed?

You will usually hear within 15 calendar days whether your application has been approved. Sometimes it can take longer and it can take up to 45 calendar days.
