Initially the security was turned up because the groups were getting
flooded with spam messages (i'd get about 5-10 spam messages a day)
and it's easier to ban spammers than going in manually to delete
stuff.

Longer messages usually kicks off the spam filter. I have to go in
and manually to approve longer stories for the most part, but I check
the groups at least once a day for admin tasks. If your story or post
doesn't show up it just means it hit the filter somehow, and I'll go
in and approve it in a few hours. I tried manually overriding each
member's status to always allow posting, but it seems that the spam
filter is still getting kicked off somehow.
