"No more mistreatment of Yukkuris!!!"
"Let the yukkuris go free!!"
"You people need to treat yukkuris properly!!"
"Yukkuris are cute animals!! The DOS incident is a propaganda spread
by people who want to abuse yukkuris!!!"
"There's no way a Dosu-yukkuri is capable of destruction on such a
large scale!!!"
"Sir, I just clean the cages here. Please back away so I can do my
job and go home to my wife and kids. I'm on an hourly wage and-"
"YOU MONSTER!!!"

The man tossed a can of rotting bean-paste on the unfortunate
custodial worker, and he looked down in disbelief at his uniform as
the protesters cheered.

"That's it, I'm calling security."
"Go ahead and call your security!!"
"We will not bend over for TYRRANY!!"
"Justice for all yukkuris!!!"

In the post-DOS incident world, yukkuri camps are a popular place for
activists to protest. With their "help", yukkuris camps have received
a great deal of attention from the media, and lately the conditions of
a few camps have become more transparent. Images of cruel yukkuri-
concentration camps were circulating the internet and the media, where
yukkuris fought to eat out of a trough and were starved to an almost
zombified state.

PETY, People for the Ethical Treatment of Yukkuris, has gathered up
steam from the success of the publicity lately and have mounted
increasingly aggressive protests as of late, recruiting thousands of
new supporters all across the nation. Many camps are actively blocked
by protesting mobs, rendering workers unable to get to their jobs at
the compounds.

In their zealous blockade, the activists never thought about the
result of blocking all the workers that feed and clean the yukkuris.
They have been too intent on seizing the momentum that they had
forgotten what they were trying to protect were yukkuris, not their
political ideals.

=========

In a small camp near the coast, the protesters have mounted their
blockade for the 3rd day straight. The shouts could be heard 24/7 in
the area, and many residents of the town have been complaining about
the littering, loitering and noise pollution.

Of course, the yukkuris could hear the commotion as well. But they're
not concerned about human affairs.

"WHY DON'T MISDER GATE OPEENNNNN!!!"
"Mister gate please let Reimu out!!! Reimu is so hungry!!! Reimu needs
mister munch-munch!!!"
"Please let Marisa out!! Marisa wants to walk around!!!"
"Id's smelly!!! Please clean Reimu's poo-poo!!!! Yugyaaaa!!!"
"Can'd.... mobe..... misder... leg....."
"Lick... Lick.... Alice... thirsty...."
"Little ones, hang in there!! Hang in there easy!! Mister gate will
open soon!! Then mommy will bring back lots of mister munch-munch!!"
"Chen doesn't get ittttt~!!! It's hotttt~!! It's hottttt~!!!! Chen's
dyiinnnnnggg!!!"
"Mukyuuuu!!! It stinkksss!!!! It stinks.... Patchouli feels sick....
BLARF"
"Mwommie!!! Mwommie... Mwommie... is rotting!!! Noooooo!!!"

It's a hot summer day, and this camp hasn't been manned in over three
days. The gates haven't been opened, the yukkuris haven't been fed,
and the ventilation fans are standing still. The dead bodies haven't
been cleaned out and were making other yukkuris sick, and there was no
water being provided to the yukkuris at all. Without the workers
there to operate the massive gates and to regulate the water supply
(the water needs to be turned off each night in order to avoid
possible leaks that will kill yukkuris), the yukkuris are basically
being starved to death. Many weaker yukkuris have already died, and
the hot summer day is baking the yukkuris alive in their cages without
the cool air from the ventilation fans.

In comparison to the older draconian prison camps, this particular
yukkuri-camp was one of the newest ones. Built on the shores with
one side of the camp completely cutoff by a towering cliff, this
yukkuri-camp only has 3 walls and enjoys a constant sea-breeze that
makes the place cool in the summer and warm in the winter for the most
part.

The yukkuris sleep in 3 story tall small hab-units that can
accommodate two adult yukkuris and three baby yukkuris, and they are
given two free days per week to relax in accordance to extensive
yukkuri research. They are given two meals a day, and once every week
they would get sweet-sweets (leftover cakes and bread from the local
bakery) as desserts. The families were even allowed to live together
for a period of time, and the yukkuris had two hours of free time
every day.

However, the compound is still more or less a prison, and the basic
commodities (food&shelter) were not designed to be "easy". The food
is the basic sludge ground up from leftover garbage and industrial
waste, and the shelters are unfurnished so that it is rough and
uncomfortable on the yukkuris' feet. The koyukkuris would be removed
from their parents after three weeks, so that they couldn't take it
too easy. However, they could still meet up with their parents during
the free times.

In the post-DOS world where yukkuris were often treated worse than
rats and roaches, this little compound is a slice of paradise for
yukkuris. It even has a completely daycare section where pet owners
could leave their pets, and the compound doubled as a temporary pet-
shelter for the small coastal town that it served. But the yu-
activists don't care about the conditions, because a yukkuri-camp is
still a yukkuri-camp to them. The goal is to shut down all the camps
and let the yukkuris go free, back into the wilds where they belong.

In the war between the activists and the government, the yukkuris
suffered.

================

"Lick... Lick... Little ones, hang in there..."
"Mwommie.... sho... hungwy...."
"Yunnn.... but there is no food..."

Three little Marisas and one mother Reimu. Marisa had been killed in
an accident falling off mister floor plank when Reimu was pregnant,
and Reimu had been reduced to a single mother. She licked each of the
three little fist-sized koyukkuris gently, and promised that mister
gate would open soon so they could get mister munch-munch.

Reimu tried to ignore the dead smell coming from the cubicle next to
hers. A sickly but wise Patchouli lived there, a wise Patchouli that
was a pillar of knowledge for the yukkuris in the camp. Her beliefs
were often criticized by other yukkuris in the camp as not-easy, but
Reimu and her little ones respected Patchouli greatly.

They would sit under the single peach tree in the compound's exercise
lot, and Patchouli would teach Reimu's three little Marisas about what
it means to be a yukkuri, and pass down stories about the great DOS
from a faraway land.

****
"Mukyuuu, poisonous mushrooms look like these.... memorize them easy
little ones! Little ones will take it easy forever if little ones eat
these mister mushrooms~"
"Mister house should be built in these types of trees and boulders..."
"Little ones, here's how you make a simple shovel out of mister
sticks..."
"Little ones, if little ones ever make it outside of this compound,
these are the easy mister foods that you can collect... try to
memorize them all~"

Patchouli was a fountain of knowledge, faithfully passing down what
her mother and her mother's mother taught for many generations.
Unfortunately, most of the yukkuris in the compound don't care much
for the knowledge, and took her for a crazy old kook. After all,
there's no practical application to anything she taught when they
can't go outside.

These three little Marisas were faithful students, but their favorite
lessons were always the ones about the great DOS.

"Mukyuu... DOS was over 10 meters tall, as big as mister cubicles.
DOS could trample mister humans beneath her feet, and had a splendid
DOS-Spark that would send mister humans running in fear. DOS was the
ruler of the world, but the cowardly mister humans gathered together
one night and attacked DOS while she was sleeping, mukyuuuuu."
""""Yuuuuu~~~""""
"Nobody knows what happened to DOS, Mukyuuu... some yukkuris say DOS
was defeated by mister humans, and others said that DOS ran away after
being wounded. But one thing is for certain... the humans have named
the encounter the DOS incident."
""""Yuuuuu~~~""""
"One thing is for certain.... DOS is no longer with us, mukyuuu. So
little ones must stay strong. Remember that little ones shouldn't
take it easy for the sake of taking it easy, and one day little ones
will become like DOS as well."
"Yu, Whad doesh id mean, 'take it eajy for the shake of daging id
eajy"?"
"Mukyukyukyuuuu, that's for little Marisa to find out."
"Mawisha will dage id eajy for big shish!!"
"Yufufu!! Then Mawisha will dage id eajy for liddle shish!!"
"Mawisha will dage it eajy for the shake of mwommie and daddie!!"
"Yufufufu, what splended little ones. Daddy would've been so proud of
little ones!"

****

And yet now, the sickly smell coming from the cubicle next door could
mean only one thing... Reimu shook her head and mourned the loss of
Patchouli. She had tried to comfort her little ones, but she's not as
naive as the other yukkuris. Every day the voices around the yukkuris
grew weaker and weaker, and every day there would be a few less
voices. She looked at her koyukkuris slowly fading away each day,
their faces growing thinner and their energetic voices seemed like a
thing of the past.

Reimu would need to make a decision soon. She'd either need to self-
split so her little ones could eat her and survive, or wait longer to
see if help comes by. The latter option seems increasingly unlikely
with each passing minute.

=======

Finally, on the fifth day, the workers of the park were able to get
into the compound after the protesters have relented in their protest
briefly. They seemed to have finally realized that there are no
workers in the compound since the beginning of their protest, and the
yukkuris wouldn't get any food unless there's human intervention.

The gates of the cubicles finally rolled open, and less than half of
the yukkuris walked out of their cubicles. A few plopped on the
ground and died after walking out, the help coming too late.

Reimu and Patchouli were not amongst the survivors.

The three little koyukkuris walked out of their cubicles, their
tummies full and their paste filled with sorrow and emotions. They
had eaten their mother yesterday in order to survive, and she had
split herself with a smile on her face. With this meal, the mother's
experience and thoughts were passed to the koyukkuris, and they found
themselves weeping at their mothers' memories.

The joy of having the koyukkuris... was the most intense emotion that
got passed down. The sorrow at having lost father Marisa, and the
longing of the outside world were all passed down as well. They had
realized that their mother had never really took it easy, and that she
had done all she could to make sure the koyukkuris took it easy. The
rare feeling of having taken it easy for the sake of others flooded
the koyukkuris as the memories swarmed around their bean paste like
little phantom worms.

But none of that surpassed the sorrow of having to eat their own
mother to survive. On that day, they matured a little bit.

Taking it easy for the sake of taking it easy is not right, they had
learned. Their mother took it easy for her little koyukkuris and no
one else. Each and every yukkuris has a responsibility as part of a
larger group, to make sure everyone takes it easy.

"God damn.... Do a head count. Those fucking protesters killed more
yukkuris than they ever saved. Double portions today. I want a
sanitation team here double time, we need those dead yukkuris cleaned
out before they sicken any others."

The director cursed like a sailor, walking around and shouting orders
to the workers and inspecting the yukkuri cages himself. The compound
had more than three hundred yukkuris prior to the protest.

There are less than one hundred after 5 long days of fasting. Most of
the ones that have survived are koyukkuris that had parents willing to
give themselves up, and many of the orphaned koyukkuris huddled in a
little group and cried to themselves.

Other parents, not so willing to take it easy forever, had devoured
their own koyukkuris or mates. Those adult yukkuris hastily rushed to
their meal troughs, hungrily licking away at the grey sludge inside.
Despite the complete lack of taste, it was the best meal they ever
had. The director shook his head as carts of yukkuris were wheeled
out, and he shouted for the workers to dump the corpses before the
horrified protesters.

"If you dumbasses didn't block us for five days, all of these yukkuris
would still be alive. Take a picture of this and shove it up your
president's ass."
"What is going on here?!"
"We feed the yukkuris and clean their cages on a daily basis. We take
care of them. You baffoons, without doing your research, show up
across the nation at all these facilities and think that by blocking
the people from getting to work, you can 'save' these yukkuris? THIS
happens when you block them. Half of the deaths occur on day one. If
I ever get caught in a car accident, please don't try to 'save' me."
"If you would just let the yukkuris go free, this wouldn't have
happened in the first place!"
"Yeah!!"
"Treat yukkuris like you would a person!!"
"This is just justified abuse!!!"
"....!!"
"..!!!"
"..."
"....

The pointless argument continued for hours, but the yukkuris don't
care. The three little Marisa sisters huddled together in a little
corner, gazing at the rest of the famished yukkuris as they rushed to
the feeding-troughs.

"Mwommie... is gone..."
"Miss Patchouli is gone too..."
"What do we do..."
"Yun..."
"Yunn..."
"Yuuuu...."

=========

"Hey, don't make so much noise."
"You're the one shuffling your feet along!"
"Would you both shut the hell up?"
""Sorry.""

Three men dressed in dark colored clothing snuck around to the side of
the yukkuri-compound, carrying with them a few large pairs of wire and
bolt cutters.

The compounded was surrounded by two layers of fences. A full layer
of metal chain-linked fence, surrounded by a trench, and a low but
durable metal rod fence that protruded inwards to extend over the
trench at an angle. The chain-linked fence was surrounded by barbed-
wire on the top and bottom to prevent entry by humans and yukkuris
alike, and then trench and inward-extending metal rod fence was
designed to catch rain-water and prevent any escape by the yukkuris
should they make it out of the first layer.

But the three men were prepared. With a few snips from the wire and
bolt cutters, the men were inside the compound.

The protest that the activists had held in the past five days had
given these three men enough time to scout the compound very
carefully, and they mapped out the yukkuri cubicles, the gate
mechanism, as well as possible points of entry.

Thanks to the ongoing efforts of the protesters, there is nobody in
the compound pulling night shifts. So tonight, they will free all the
yukkuris in the compound and bring them where they are meant to be.
They will return to the wild, where they will thrive like the yukkuris
that they were supposed to be. They have a truck parked outside of
the camp that they will drive to a remote forest, the natural habitat
of the yukkuris.

They also have a video camera with them that will show the happiness
of the yukkuris that they rescued.

*****

"Yufu.... Yururururu...."
"... eas..."
"...zzz"

Suddenly, a loud klaxon sounded throughout the facility, indicating
the opening of the gates. The yukkuris jolted awake to this alarm,
confused by the opening of the gate in the middle of the night.

"Yu yu?"
"Mister gate?"
"But where's mister sun?"
"Yu yu? Reimu is sleepy!! Don't interrupt Reimu's beauty sleep!!"
"It's not very city-sect to wake Alice up in the middle of the night!"
"Hey yukkuris!!! Take it easy!!!"
"Yukkuris! Come down here!! We're letting you all out of this terrible
compound!!"
"Yu yu?"
"Out?"
"Reimu can leave this not-easy place?"
"Another mister human trick...?"

The yukkuris slowly filed out of the cubicles and gathered around the
three men, yu-ing and chattering to themselves excitedly and with some
reservation. The three men started forming the yukkuris into a
straight line, and the yukkuris offered little resistance. It seems
like they're fairly used to this routine.

"Achem... Take it easy and follow us outside! We'll be bringing you
to the forest, where you can take it easy in your natural
environment!"
"Yu... the... forest?"
"What about mister sludge-sludge....?"
"Reimu is going back to sleep, ze..."
"Yu yu..."
"Yu..."
"Eh? What's wrong?"

The men looked around at the uncertain faces, and wondered why the
yukkuris weren't more excited with the prospect of leaving the
compound. Some of the yukkuris began to file back into their
cubicles, unwilling to go outside where they don't have an easy place
and would need to work for their own food.

Like all other compounds, many of the yukkuris here have been
imprisoned for generations. The faint memory of the forest is
diluted and the survival skills are more or less non-existent. The
uncertainty of moving into an unfamiliar area is something these
yukkuris have not needed to deal with for years. In fact, many of
these yukkuris have no memories of their forests and caves from years
ago.

Unlike human prisons, these yukkuris have never once tasted "freedom",
so there is not much of a desire to leave the place, especially since
this compound is fairly lenient in their treatment of yukkuris. None
of their parents, nor their grandparents, nor their grand-grandparents
have ever known freedom nor the outside world. Many yukkuris have
lost their ability to survive in the wild, like the domesticated cats
and toy dogs of humans.

With the camera rolling, their plan suddenly seemed rather flawed, as
it didn't include resistance and complacency on the part of the
yukkuris. They expected it to be like a human prison, where the
prisoners would go mad at the prospect of being freed. However, they
didn't attribute this to the lack of interest and fear of the unknown
on the yukkuris' part.

"Look at these poor things, they're so afraid of humans that they're
unwilling to follow us. Don't worry little ones, you can follow us
outside. We're friends. We're easy people."
"They must've abused them so much that they're afraid of doing
anything 'wrong'. These wardens are sick bastards."
"Don't worry little ones, you're safe. Come with us... outside. To
the forest."
"Yu? Outside? Forest?"
"What ish a 'foo-eest'? Can Chen ead it?"
"There will be lots of mister trees and grass, and you can make your
nests and easy places in the places where you're meant to! There will
be lots of delicious mister munch-munch for you guys too!"
"Yu! Munch-munch!!"
"But Reimu is fine with mister sludge-sludge..."
"Yu? But easy-places just grow out of the ground..."
"Reimu's mommy and mommy's mommy has always said that..."
"There is lots of mister grass in mister exercise yard..."

Indeed there is.

The activists looked over in the direction of the exercise yard, which
resembled a small park complete with recreation equipment. Looking at
this compound from the inside.... it doesn't seem like those
concentration camps they showed in all those PETY meetings. When they
looked back, more and more yukkuris started heading back into their
cubicles. Compared to an uncertain home outside the fence, this is a
more secure place for them.

This compound has been overwhelming successful in terms of yukkuri
control. The more draconian compounds would from time to time have
riots, because of the overwhelming oppression and lack of easiness.
The more lenient compounds, like this one, employed a more subtle form
of subjugation that takes advantage of the yukkuris' laziness. They
would let the yukkuris take it easy, to a certain degree, but not
enough to trigger dosification. In this sense, the yukkuris would
think life in this compound "is not that bad", grow complacent and
have no will to leave or endanger humans ever again. Food, shelter,
and even little ones are there. What more could they want?

"Uh... well... you need to get out of here!! Don't you want to take it
easy more? This is not an easy place!! Follow us and we'll show
you!!"
"Really?..."
"How can there be a more easy place?"
"Why is Reimu's easy place not easy?"
"Country bumpkin don't bad-mouth Alice's city-sect home!!"
"Marisa is scared, ze."
"Chen doesn't get it!!!"
"DIIIIIIIICK!!!"
"Uh.. yeah! Mister... um.... humans were planning to kill all of you
tomorrow!! So follow us if you don't want to die!!"
""""""""YUUUUUUUU!?!?!"""""""""
"They starved you guys for five days and tried to kill you, but they
didn't expect you guys to survive!! So they are going to do it again!"
"""""""""YUUUUUUUUUUUUU!?!?""""""""
"Can't take it easy without mister munch-munch!!"
"Reimu doesn't want mister gate to stay shut!!"
"Yuuuuu, Reimu lost her mommy!!"
"Chen doesn't get it...."

The tiebreaker went to three little Marisas. The three little Marisas
that had lost their mother, and had inherited fond memories of the
forest and the iron-willed determination to help others take it easy.

"Yu, there is nothing for Marisa here anymore, ze."
"Marisa and her little sisters will leave this place!"
"Mawisha will go where big-shish goes!! Mawisha will help everyone
dage id eajy!!!"
"Yu... if those little ones are willing to go, then Reimu will go
too!"
"Marisa too, ze!"
"Misder, lead the way!"

The men smiled and led the yukkuris out of the compound and into the
truck.

=================

"Here you are!! The forest!!"

At the break of dawn, the activists finally reached their
destination. The yukkuris were unloaded off the truck, and they
stepped into a small forest that was very different from the home that
they were used to. A lush canopy with fingers of light piercing
through it from the early morning sun, a soft mushy ground filled with
wild grasses and flowers, damp with the morning dew and filled with
insect life. Tall trees that smelled like nothing the yukkuris ever
imagined before, an array of colors and smells that invaded the
yukkuris' olfactory senses all at once.

Some yukkuris remembered, deep down in their bean-paste, about their
ancestral homes and were thrilled to be back.

But most did not.

Many yukkuris were less than happy with the strange and damp place. A
completely unfamiliar environment that they had never seen before, and
there's no leaders in this group. There's no familiar smells nor
familiar sights, and a few of the yukkuris huddled together in fear.
The clammy moisture clung to their skin and made them feel like they
were melting.

"Where is mister munch-munch?"
"Where is Reimu's new home?"
"Where is Marisa's new easy place, ze? Mister human fork it over!!"
"Mwommie, Weimu ish hungwy!"
"What do you mean? This is your natural environment! Where you
belong!"
"Yukkuris live in forests, and here you can go hunting and make your
own nests under boulders and tree-trunks, make a little paradise of
your own! Just like in those National Geographic videos!!"
"You can form a little clan, just like you did so many years ago! One
of you can become a dosu and then the world will know that
dosuyukkuris aren't dangerous after all! They'll all know you're
friendly creatures that need to be freed from the compounds
nationwide!!"
"Yu... hunting? What's 'hunting', ze?"
"Reimu doesn't know anything about making a nest, ze!! Easy places
just grow out of the ground!"
"What's a dosuyukkuri?"
"W... What? What do you mean you don't know how to hunt? What about
all those videos?!?"
"Reimu doesn't know anything about some stupid videos!!! Just hand
over mister munch-munch!!"
"Mister! Hurry up and bring mister munch-munch, ze! Marisa is
hungry!!"
"What? We don't have any food! You gotta go hunt for it!! That's
what animals in the wild do!! Or forage!! Like go look for mushrooms
and stuff!"
"Enough joking mister!! It's Reimu's super-munch-munch time!! Reimu
needs her mister munch-munch!"
"What a not-city-sect bunch of mister humans!! Mister director
sometimes gave Alice delicious treats!! Alice wants to go back
home!!!"
"Where are the easy places?! Mister humans are liars!!! Marisa can't
take it easy at all here!!"
"Reimu wants to go home!!"
"Chen too!!! Chen doesn't understand it here!!!"
"Wh... What??? H... How can this..."

The three men looked around in panic and disbelief as the yukkuris
hopped around crying and shouting, demanding food or be brought back
home. The yukkuris are completely confused by the forest, and
intimidated by the large forest canopies, flowers and plant life that
they had never seen before. The men had not realized that a few short
years is all the yukkuris have in a lifetime, and it is rare for any
modern yukkuri to live past 2 years old in the modern day compounds.
The information on yukkuris had become painfully outdated post the DOS-
incident.

These yukkuris have undergone at least ten generations, and most of
them have become complacent in the compounds. While ten years is very
short for humans, it is an eternity for yukkuris.

The men, startled at this discovery, quickly climbed into their truck
and drove off when the yukkuris started coming closer, leaving behind
the group of confused yukkuris that they worked so hard to "rescue".
They would cut this part out of the final video.

"YUUUUU!! Mister humans left us!!!"
"What about Reimu's munch-munch!?"
"Chen doesn't get it!!! Where would Chen go to sleep!?!?"
"DICCCCKKKK!?!?!"
"Yu.... Marisa expected this all along, ze."
"Big shish.... really?"
"Of course, ze. Yukkuris have to take care of yukkuris... not mister
humans, ze."

Without any sort of leaders, or survival skills, these yukkuris are
doomed to die in the forest. Predators, poisonous plants and insect
life, exposure, rain, natural traps and dangerous terrain all worked
against the soft weak bodies of yukkuris.

The three little Marisas glanced at the panicking yukkuris, and the
eldest sister cleared her voice.

"Achem... Take it easy!!!"
""""""""Take it easy!!!!""""""""
"Marisa knows what to do!!! So every yukkuri listen up!!!...."

While the breach at the yukkuri compound was promptly reported, the
local government body did not have enough manpower to send out search
parties in force. With acres upon acres of forests to be combed in
the area, there is no way that anybody can effectively cover enough
ground efficiently with conventional search parties.

After the initial outrage and half-hearted sweep of the area, fear
over the escaped yukkuris died down, and people soon began to forget
about these lucky ones that escaped the system. PETY displayed the
rescue video all over the nation and youtube as a triumphant trophy of
their daring mission, though a heavy amount of editing went into the
final presentation to make sure only "happy" yukkuris scenes were
shown.

PETY continued to gain strength and momentum in the nation, and many
yukkuri compounds were forced to restructure their treatment of the
yukkuris to allow them to take it easy. The lobbying continued to
influence many senators and house members, and the "yukkuri humanity
crisis" was slowly coming back into the spotlight as a national
focus. Just when laws concerning the yukkuri camps were making its
way through congress and the national yukkuri-craze for pets was
starting to pick up again...

Three notorious dosuyukkuris appeared in three different rural towns
during late fall, two years after the breach.

======================

They had come in a wave, hundreds of yukkuris sweeping across the
farming towns like a swarm of locusts.

"So good!! This shit's so good!!"
"This is much better than mister mushrooms!!!"
"Alice will take a big bite, ohoho~"
"Chen gets it~ What a easy meal!!"
"DIIIICCCCKKKK!!! Maramaramaramara-"
"Don't take too long!! Mister humans will surely find us! Carry
everything back to the easy place!!"
"""""Understood easy!!!"""""

The damage to the town was catastrophic. An entire season's worth of
crops was eradicated within a week, and the cries and rage of the
farmers immediately made national television even as a second, and
third town were ransacked by the yukkuris, each led by a dosu-Marisa.
The fear of a repeat of the DOS incident prompted immediate national
guard mobilization with army support, while PETY activists cried foul
at the disproportionate force being mobilized.

===========

"What a big haul, ze!"
"How did big sis do?"
"Marisa got enough for mister Winter!"
"Yufufufu, that's not nearly enough for mister Winter, ze!! The clan
size has nearly doubled, so Big sis will need to work extra-hard this
year!"
"Yuu!! Of course!!"

It has been two years since the jailbreak at the yukkuri compound. By
some miracle, all three little Marisas had turned into dosuyukkuris,
each leading an individual clan in the patch of forest that the humans
initially dropped them off in. Most of the original yukkuris
escapees had since passed away, but the combined numbers of their
clans are now filled with over five hundred strong young yukkuris,
koyukkuris and mothers.

The yukkuris bred like roaches after the escape. With the careful
management and advice from the three koyukkuris, the ignorant yukkuris
were able to survive their first (mild) Winter in the forest. The
population of the yukkuris ballooned in the following year, and the
food in the forest rapidly began to run out as the yukkuris overgrazed
the land and turned the lush forest floor into a barren field of
dirt.

The population within the clan boomed again with the additional safe
feel of having a dosuyukkuri. With the lack of food in the region,
they began to raid farmlands on a very small scale all throughout
spring, summer and fall, probing the defenses of each individual farm
until they settled on three of the weakest defended farms. Then they
hit in force.

Of all the things Patchouli had taught them, there was one thing she
didn't teach. It was something most yukkuris don't think about.
After all, mister flowers, mister corn and mister wheat just grows out
of the ground.

****

"Scarecrow one-six; hotel two-four. Target spotted, moving en-masse
south-southwest of the suspect forest."
"Hotel two-four, copy. Moving cavalry elements to intercept.
Infantry divisions will move in to provide covering fire."
"Is there really a need for all this just for yukkuris? I mean, these
are just little balls of flour and bean paste?"
"Don't forget the dosu-incident. Dosu-yukkuris have some crazy
firepower, the one fifteen years ago nearly leveled that town."
"Scarecrow one-six, copy. Jotting down the location of their camp,
need a thorough sweep of this area after targets are neutralized for
rogue elements."

****

"Yu~♪ Yu~♪ "
"""Yu~ Yu~~"""
"Easy~♪ Easy~♪"
"Marisa will make sure to carry lots in her mister hat!"
"Reimu needs mister corn for little ones~"
"Mukyuuu, Patchouli wants to take a look at mister human's easy
places..."

Moving towards the village as if they were going on the picnic, the
yukkuris hummed and sang to themselves while chattering lively. A sea
of yukkuris were hopping along the forest floor out into the southern
exit in the forest, trampling the well-worn forest floor that was
already devoid of any plant life save for trees. The bouncing manjus
stepped into the clearing, and immediately started towards the closest
patch of corn crops.

The eldest dosu-Marisa exited the forest clearing first, and took a
deep breath of the fresh farm-smell permeating the air. The ripe
smell of fall crops swam around her, and Marisa smiled as her yukkuris
started towards the corn field, chanting "slowly~ slowly~".

*****

"Red Oni one, target spotted in the clearing, heading East towards the
field of corn."
"Red Oni two, copy. Red Oni two, hotel two-four. Requesting
permission to engage."
"Snipper, target within range. Requesting permission to engage."
"Sentinel, target is heading down a ditch, I'm going to lose her."
"Hotel two-four to all units, you're free to engage. Light 'em up.
Minimize collateral damage, over."
""""Roger.""""

Loud heavy cracks echoed across the empty fields, and Marisa looked up
with confusion a split second before six 25mm rounds pounded into her
face, shattering her flour-based face from two different directions.

Dosu-Marisa's shook as the impact of the cannon rounds impacted into
her face, and her body juttered pathetically as the explosive rounds
tore right through her body with devastating force. The rounds
detonated inside the thick bean paste inside her body, spraying
shrapnel out the back of her body and shredding the yukkuris
unfortunate enough to stand behind Dosu-Marisa. White hot tracer
rounds continuing raining in from over two kilometers away, blossoming
and kicking up dirt and bean paste on the points of impact.

Smaller cracks much closer to the forest then opened up, peppering the
bewildered yukkuris with rifle and light machine gun rounds.

A rifle round caught Reimu between her eyes, and the back of her head
exploded, showering her koyukkuris with a sea of red bean paste.

"Yu yu?! Mishder sweet-sweets!! Lick-lick!!"
"Sho good! This shit's sho.... YUGYAAAA MWOMMIE!?!?!? MWOMMIE'S HEAD
ISH MISSINGGGG!!!"

A line of tracer fire blew off Marisa's leg, and she toppled forward,
screeching as she watched her bean paste spill out from her in a
torrent.

A well placed shot spun Reimu around like a ragdoll, her braid torn
off by the glancing blow. The next shot caught her on the side of the
head, and the hydrostatic pressure shredded her internal bean paste
and popped her eyes, her memories and experiences lost forever in the
blink of an eye.

Then Patchouli, seeing the carnage around her, simply threw up her
cream filling and died on the spot from shock.

Yukkuri after yukkuri exploded like flowers as the projectiles ripped
through their bodies, and the turrets on the Bradley M2 IFVs started
swinging slowly, stitching a line of tracer fire through the sea of
yukkuris with explosive chain gun rounds. The remaining yukkuris
finally snapped to their senses as they realized they were dying by
the dozens, and began to scatter like a nest of spiders.

"YUGYAAAAA!!! DOSU IS DEADDDD!!!"
"MISTER FIRE DON'T COME HEREEE!!!"
"YUPB-"
"MWOMMIEEE!!! Take it easy!!! Weimu will lick-liYUPL-"
"Rub-rub!! Daddy run away easy!!! Why won't daddy moveee!?!?!? Are
you stupid, are you deaf!?!?"
"ID HURDSSSSS!!! DEIBU'S TUMMYYYYY!!! TUMMY IS GONEEEEE!"
"BAWIZA'S HADDDDDD!!!!"
"PUFF! Alice will get angry!!!"
"Everyone!!! Puff-puff and scare away the mister humans!!!"
""""YUUUU!!""""

A line of yukkuris puffed up, and the cracks of rifle rounds slowed
momentarily as the guardsmen looked at each other in confusion.

"Uh, This is Red Oni two-three. What are the yukkuris doing? Is that
a sign of surrender?"
"Red Oni two, negative. Puffing up is a way to intimidate predators.
Resume firing. Take no prisoners."
"Roger. Just makes a bigger target for me."

The firing resumed, and the puffed up yukkuris exploded like bean
paste filled balloons as the accuracy rate of the rifles and LMGs
increased tenfold.

"YUUUU!! Puff-puff isn't working!!!! WHYYYY!!"
"Puff-puff more!!! Puff-puff harder!!! PUFFFFF!!!!"
""""""""PUFFFFFF!~!!!!"""""""""

A brilliant tracer clipped the side of a Reimu that was puffing up,
and she yelped in pain and flew to the side like a popped balloon,
squashing her koyukkuris that were also puffing up.

"YUPLEH-"
"YUBEEH-"
"DEIBU'S BEAUDIFUL BABIEEEZZZZZZ!!!!!!"

The firing slowed, then completely ceased as the yukkuris retreated
back into the forest, leaving behind corpses, wailing koyukkuris and
mortally wounded yukkuris. Within five minutes there was a sea of
bean paste, shattered manju bodies and craters before the forest
entrance. The yu-ing of wounded yukkuris and crying koyukkuris filled
the air along with the strange tangy smell of gunpowder, custard,
chocolate, bean-paste and cream.

"Hotel two-four to all units, sweep the forest. Keep an eye out for
the dosuyukkuris, they are supposed to have some heavy firepower. "
"Snipper; Hotel two-four. Uh, we're not going to be able to fit in
the forest. Over."
"Sentinel; Hotel two-four. We're going to swing around for a better
firing position. Over."
"Hotel two-four; Snipper and Sentinel, standby, over."
"Snipper, acknowledged."
"Hotel two-four to infantry elements, do not engage the dosuyukkuri if
you see it. Lure and funnel to position Alpha Romeo, over."
"""""Order Acknowledged."""""
"Hotel two-four, Hawk one-six. Move in to provide air-support, over."
"Hawk one-six, acknowledged. Moving into position."

===========

In the forest clearing, the two dosu-Marisas eagerly awaited the
return of their older sister. They would each take a share of the
spoils back to their own clans when their big sister comes back, and
in the meantime they chatted and traded opinions on how to best manage
their clans. However, what came back to them was the screaming and
crying of over a hundred yukkuris.

Over two hundred able bodied yukkuris and koyukkuris had been
annihilated in the short span of five minutes. Counting the remaining
members of the clan, they are left with just over one hundred able-
bodied yukkuris, compared to the two-hundred immobile mothers and
newborn baby yukkuris.

A tremendous blow to the hunting and gathering operation.

Not to mention their oldest sister is missing. A Marisa brought the
bad news.

"DOSU IS DEADDD!!! DOSU IS DEADDDD!!!"
"YUUUUU!?!?"
"How could that happen!!?! Big sisssss!?"
"Mister humans saw us coming!!! Mister humans attacked us!!!"
"The selfish mister humans are here!!!"
"Chen can't take it easy!!! Chen doesn't get it!!! How could dosu
die!?!?"
"YUUUUUU!!! Mister humans?!! How could mister humans see when we do
'slowly-slowly' all the time!?!?"
"Chen doesn't knoww!!"
"Dosuuuuu!!! Go fight off mister humans!!"
"Dosu is so strong!! Mister humans will be no match!!"
"If mister humans weren't so cowardly and ambushed Dosu, we would've
surely won!!"

The two remaining sisters looked at one another, and they nodded. Big-
sis was the strongest of them all, over two meters tall without her
hat. Surely mister humans employed some dirty trick to bring her
down... but those tricks will not work with them now that they know
about the ambush.

==========

"Red Oni three-three; Sir, target spotted in a forest clearing."
"Red Oni three, copy. Employ smoke grenades."

A wall of smoke began to close in on the yukkuris, and they panicked.
A few yukkuris trampled over one another in an effort to get away from
the smoke, and the two dosu-sisters began shouting commands to the
yukkuris in an attempt to restore order.

In nature, where there is smoke there will be fire. This logic is not
lost on the yukkuris, despite the years of confinement in the yukkuri
compound.

"Yu!!! Grab all the mister munch-munch that you can!!"
"Yu!! Get all the little ones out, ze!!"
"YUUUUU!!! Mister fire and mister smoke is coming closer!!!"
"Little ones, don't take it easy and hop in mommy's mouth!! Mommy
will protect little ones!"
"Escape easy!!! Chen gets it!!!"
"DIIIIICKKKK!!"

Leading the entire clan of yukkuris to escape mister forest fire, the
two dosu-Marisa sisters scampered along the well-trodden forest floor
to exit the forest into a clearing on the west side. This area was
home to the first invasion that they led, and the wide open fields
were filled with barren stalks, half-eaten corn and ransacked barns.

"Yu? What is that?"
"Mister metal box?"
"Snipper, dosuyukkuris spotted. Requesting permission to engage."
"Hotel two-four, Snipper. Permission granted. Sentinel, move in to
support."

The two dosu-yukkuris started moving forward, curious as to what the
mister-metal boxes were. The first cannon shot went wide, smashing
into the tree behind Marisa to send splinters and jagged pieces of
wood screaming into the back of her body. The second and third shot
clipped her on the side of her body, spinning her around to topple
down a ditch. The smallest dosu-Marisa immediately ducked down into
the ditch, weary of the bright lines that indicated cannon fire from
the IFV as the cannon fire passed directly over her hat.

"Snipper, primary target lost. Repeat, target lost!! Resuming fire on
secondary targets!!"
"YUUUU!! DOSU IS HURT!!!"
"Big sis!!!! What happened!?!?!"
"YUGYAAAAA---- ID HURDSSSS!!! That's mister human's not-easy cars!!!"
"YUUUU!!! MISTER HUMANS DIE EASY!!!"

Little Dosu-Marisa popped two glowing mushroom into her mouth, and
stood up straight. She opened her mouth, and a small orb formed
around her mouth as a loud whine pierced the headsets of the humans.
Marisa's image became a bit distorted from the concentrated arcane
energy, the power flowing like a small sun.

"PRIMARY TARGET SPOTTED!! SHE'S USING THE SPARK!! DRIVE!!
DRIVEEEE!!!!!"

A deafening echo cracked through the empty air above the farmlands,
and a spear of light punched through the ground that the Bradley M2
was sitting on just a moment ago. The ground erupted in a brilliant
fireball, heaving the earth upwards and sending the IFV toppling over
upside down, crushing the turret under its own weight. The small
resulting crater, the size of a small swimming pool, smoldered and
crackled with arcane energy. The yukkuris cheered and little dosu-
Marisa smiled, but she noticed a small black mister bird in the
distance. No, it's too big to be mister bird... and it's making a
very not-easy sound. The other mister metal box started backing away
from little dosu-Marisa, and Marisa fired off a few tiny dos-sparks,
cratering the farm fields and setting a barn ablaze but missing the
IFV by a wide margin.

"Hotel two-four to Snipper!!! Respond!! Snipper, respond!!!"
"..... *Static*....."
"Red Oni one to Hotel two-four!!! Snipper is down!! Repeat, Snipper is
down!! She's capsized in smoke!!!"
"Sentinel taking heavy fire!!! We're pulling back but will provide
supporting fire!!!"
"Hawk one-six, we're in range. Fox four, firing. "

The Cobra's six-barreled vulcan cannon spun to life as the remaining
Bradley M2 distanced herself from the dosuyukkuri, hammering away at
the crowd of yukkuris with the 25mm cannon as it retreated. The gun-
mount on the Cobra began spraying 20mm rounds into little dosu-Marisa,
pumping explosive shells the size of a fist into her at a rate of 100
rounds per second. The brilliant tracers punched through the
dosuyukkuri, and she screamed and let loose one last weak dosu-spark
in her dying throes, ripping a line of fire and explosion through the
farm fields and barns that they had ravaged just earlier in the
week.

"Hawk one-six, fox one. Firing."

A sharp hiss and a spear of fire from the Cobra.
A brilliant explosion from the impact of the hellfire missile.
The dumbfounded faces of the rest of the yukkuris, turning to see
their two leaders reduced to smoldering smithereens in the ensuing
fireball that also incinerated more than fifty yukkuris around their
beloved Dosu.
The remaining Dosu-Marisa's bean paste blasting into the sky along
with chunks of earth and trees, raining down on the yukkuris as their
last present.

""""""""""DOSSSUUUUUUUUUU!!!!""""""""""
"All units, move in and clean up. Dosuyukkuris are neutralized,
repeat. Dosuyukkuris are neutralized."

============

The videos shot by on-lookers of the battle were quick to make it to
the internet, and the destruction of the Bradley M2 Infantry Fighting
Vehicle was capitalized as evidence of the fearsome power of the
dosuyukkuris. Videos of the horrendous power of the dosu-spark made
its way around, and even PETY had to admit the dangers of a
dosuyukkuri, but not before pinning the responsibility of the whole
event on the government's compounds. The crew of the overturned
Bradley received only minor injuries from crash, but there was no
doubt to the devastating abilities of the dosu-spark and what would've
happened if there had been a direct hit.

The incident did not stop PETY from pushing their agendas, though they
had began to rapidly lose support as people realized the folly of
their campaigns. Supporters began to withdraw funding from PETY
almost immediately, and by the end of the year PETY would be reduced
to an insignificant movement. The nation reversed its position on
yukkuris almost overnight, and the efforts of PETY were crushed by the
very yukkuris they sought to "save". Their argument had remained
that if the yukkuris were unprovoked, they would've been perfectly
fine in their natural environment. PETY had no comments about the
ravaged forest that was devoid of floral, grass and insect life, nor
did they respond to requests for comments on the raids on the farming
town nearby.

Unknown to the public, a secret government project had started in an
attempt to harness the power of the dosu-spark. The camps reverted
back to they way they were before, and the agony and cries of yukkuris
once again filled the air, for better or worse.

I think I went a bit overboard with this story. The military response
is obviously disproportionate, but I'd like to justify that with the
irrational fear that the people have for the dosuyukkuris after the
DOS-incident. Not to mention the dosuyukkuris were able to wreck a M2
in any case, so it's not that overwhelming, considering that fact
alone.

If anything doesn't make sense or is too far-fetched, I apologize. :)

A wonderful story, still. Only complaint is that damn, you reached the
yukkuri rights idea before I did... I already began sketching it out,
but after the camp part it's very similar...

Interesting and epic, which makes me think my other idea being a
little less silly. but still absurd in comparison. Here's a teaser, I
still don't really have a real story fitting together, just a couple
scenes in my head like this one:

"YU! You wan to know why Mawicha iddin't tadgeing id eajy fowever?"
The man who was managing the yukkuri camp was irritated at the
situation. He was interviewing a yukkuri, a very young one at that, to
find out something that he couldn't understand. He had managed the
camp for a few years, but had seen nothing like this Marisa.

A lone child in one of the more brutal camps, the Marisa had a very
strange effect on every yukkuri it encountered. The other yukkuri that
spoke to or even saw it changed from an empty shell to the vibrant
type of yukkuri that was seen only in prosperous wilds or as well
cared for pets prior to the strict control of yukkuri after the DOS
incident. It was subtly kept out of it's cage one night, so that it
could be crushed for not making curfew. It somehow made all the other
yukkuri take it easy, which would not be tolerated, because as humans
believed, easiness is what forms a DOS.

However, the same yukkuri reappeared the next day. it seemed
conclusive. The little Marisa had the same effect and was recognized
by the same parents, a Patchouli/Marisa pair. This time the parents
were seen as the potential source of the problem. The same trick was
used. the parents were intentionally distracted and diverted, until
curfew came and they were locked out. The pair was herded to where
their child was just beginning to settle in for the night, and crushed
in Marisa's sight. This seemed to have no affect on the Marisa. It
continued to joyfully bounce around, spreading easiness.

"Yu? Is mishter hooman going to megg a weason to cwush Mawicha again?"
"You know you were crushed?"
"Yesh, and den mishter hooman cwushed mwommy and daddy. Ich nod eajy."
"If you were crushed, how are you alive?"
"Mihster hooman won undertand eaziwy. Ged a soft mishter chair, Id
will chake a wong time."

The man was eagerly awaiting some classic yukkuri trash talk about
demanding sweets, as little as that would probably be justification
for killing this Marisa to him. The rules were usually kept clear and
solid to stave off riots, which were a pain to clean up after and
difficult to repopulate after. Looming discontent could easily be set
off by clear unfairness or selective enforcement, and in such a case
the yukkuri might rather go down fighting then sit back in an uneasy
life. This time though, he was willing to make an exception.

But everything this Marisa said was enigmatic and strange. "Mawicha
won die, beguz Mawicha ish foo ob spechial easy!"
"Special easy?"
"Ids wat mages a DOS. Mizer hoomans twy to contwol id, but id won
worg!"

This statement was especially unsettling, the conditions of the camp
were made to prevent yukkuri from becoming DOS. "Going to kill Mawicha
again? Dat won worg." Shocked as it seemed to read his mind. He was
just trying to figure out how to off it in order to prevent another
DOS incident. "Mawicha won die! Ich wike a mizder bawoon wif gwoing
air!" This drew a strange look from the manager. "Hoomans don hab a
name fwor id, so Mawicha cawws id spechial easy!"

Marisa hopped before continuing. "Mizder hoomans twy to hod a bawoon
cwozed so no eajy can ged oud, but id juzd keebs gwowing! Mizedr
bawoon has a widdle howle, and dat's Mawiza! a widdle bid of easy is
coming oud, but if mizder hoomans don wed go, mizder bawoon will bwow
ub!"

The man scowled and became angry "Just what the hell are you talking
about?" The Marisa grew an annoyed expression. "Mizer hooman can'd
dundersdand. Mawicha chould hab chegged befowre twying." It sighed
"chake Mawicha to mizder chage or cwush Mawicha. Mawicha will twy
tomowow if mizder hooman asks again. Mizder hooman needs time to
thing."

Marisa was dumped off near the feeding trough late in mealtime, with
the thought that it might take too long eating and not make curfew.
Instead it went off towards it's cage. "You aren't eating?" Asked the
handler as Marisa left. "No, Mawicha is full of spechial easy! Don
need to munch-munch." The confused handler wasn't ordered to ensure
it's death this time, so he simply left to his regular duties.

I have some other plot ideas that involve Yokai DOS, an assistant
planner, and an end result that basically makes an additional
alternate ending, but no real frame work of what's supposed to
ultimately be going on here.

I love the smell of oppressed yukkuris in the morning. Smells like...
irony.

Gratuitous quote mangling aside, this really was entertaining. Please
continue, good sir.

Okay, If I expand on this, I'll tone it down to a few extra "w" and
some "ch" in place of "t."
