I follow everything on the ytex site until the feature engineering page. I understand the general svm/hyperplane description, but can't relate them to this concept of validation of kernels based on document pairs.

furthermore, I don't see any explanation how ytext got its kernel set to begin with.

Can some one give me a hint or point to some references? hopefully something publicly available w/o charging an article fee.

Hi Bruce,

Start with these papers; hopefully this will give you a general idea on what kernels can be used for.  If you want to do something more hands-on, try the I2B2 example - I can add more details for that.
