The written tests are offered in the following languages: English, Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, Spanish, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Hindi, Albanian, and Turkish. Oral tests are offered in English and Spanish.
If the knowledge test is not available in your native language you may use an interpreter obtained by the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) via state contract. You may request at time of your Permit appointment and MVC will arrange to secure an interpreter in your native language and pay the appropriate fees. Appointments with an interpreter are typically scheduled within four to six weeks.
Knowledge testing is available at all DC DMV Service Centers on a first-come, first-serve basis. The test can be taken in English, Amharic, Arabic, Cantonese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai, and Vietnamese. Audio assisted tests are also available to those who need assistance with reading.
Knowledge testing is now available virtually and via a local Test Proctoring Center, with the exception of motorcycle and CDL knowledge tests. An appointment is required to take the test virtually and at the Test Proctoring Center. Virtual testing is only available specifically for the standard and the Graduated License Program (GRAD) (16-20 years old) knowledge tests. A language line is available to those who cannot (or have limited capacity to) speak, read, or write English.
You must pay a fee to take the knowledge test, whether you pass or fail. If you receive a passing score, you must visit a DC DMV Service Center within 14 business days of passing the test and present all required eligibility documents to obtain your learner permit or driver license. Failure to comply with the 14 business day requirement will result in the test results not being honored and retesting will be required.
If you complete the virtual knowledge test, you will be immediately notified by a representative of your test results. If you receive a passing score, you must visit a DC DMV Service Center within 14 business days of passing the test and present all required eligibility documents to obtain your learner permit or driver license. Failure to comply with the 14 business day requirement will result in the test results not being honored and retesting will be required.
If you do not receive a passing score on the driver knowledge test, you may take the test again after waiting three full calendar days. For example, if you fail the test on Tuesday, you are not eligible to retest until Saturday. If you do not receive a passing score six times within a 12-month period, you will not be allowed to take the seventh test until 12 months after you failed the first test. If taking the test virtual or at the third-party test location, a new appointment must scheduled on the Test Proctoring Center website.
Be sure to study the manual of the license you are testing for before you take the knowledge test. Download a copy of the automobile driver manual and motorcycle operator manual. Hardcopy manuals are no longer available.
Each knowledge test has a time limit; if you go beyond the limit, you fail the test. Using smart devices (i.e. cellphone or watch), study materials, talking, etc. during the test is considered cheating and will result in a failed test. Additionally, you will not be allowed to retest for 60 days. Only individuals taking the test are allowed in the testing area at the DC DMV Service Centers and third-party location.
The following 30 questions are typical of the questions you will be asked when obtaining your driver license. You may take the test as many times as you would like. In the end, you will be provided with your score and information on the questions you had trouble with.
When applying for a GA driver's license or instructional permit, most first-time applicants must take and successfully pass a road signs test and road rules general knowledge test. All information necessary to pass the test is included in the driver's manual. You can test your knowledge with Department of Driver Services' practice test. This practice test will provide you with an idea of the type of questions that will be asked.
The written knowledge test will be based on information in the Utah driver handbook. The questions will be related to your specific written knowledge test or tests for the required license and/or endorsements. You are allowed to take two (2) written knowledge tests in one (1) day. After three (3) attempts, you will be required to pay a second fee.
When renewing your Utah driver license, if you have had more than six (6) citations in eight (8) years, have been suspended or revoked, or your license has expired for more than six (6) months, you will be required to take a 25-question open-book test.
The knowledge test is available to take online at KnowToDrive Nevada. These results are transmitted to the DMV automatically for the purposes of issuing instruction permits or driver licenses. The test is available in both English and Spanish. Touch-screen devices are not compatible with the online exam - only computers with front-facing cameras or camera peripherals.
Interpreters must attest that they are approved by a governmental agency, court, educational institution, or non-profit advocacy group by presenting a letter from the approving agency. This is submitted with an application (DMV 502). See DMV Approved Translators/Interpreters.
The DMV charges a Testing Fee of $25 for a first-time knowledge and skills test and $10 for all retests. The initial fee covers both written and drive tests for any combination of license classes or endorsements that are paid for at the same time.
The KnowToDrive Nevada written exam charges a $6.75 fee each time the exam is taken. This fee is assessed at the time of testing. The initial testing fee of $25 will still be assessed when collecting your driving credentials. These fees are in addition to other Driver License Fees. Certain medically-required tests are exempt. There is no charge for vision tests.
The online version of the manual contains Parts 1, 2 and 3 (Chapters 1 through 12) of the printed manual. Chapters 4 through 11 include material you must know to pass the DMV written test for a Class D, DJ or E learner permit. The chapters have interactive quizzes with actual test questions.

You may also choose to sit a standalone version of the Driver Knowledge Test which does not require you to complete the Plates Plus course before sitting the driver knowledge test. This is only available at Service Tasmania shops. To sit the test you will need to bring evidence of identity with you.

The Rules of the Road Test assesses your knowledge of the traffic laws and rules for safe driving. This part of the Knowledge Test has 20 multiple-choice questions. To pass, you need to answer at least 16 correctly.
Right now, the Knowledge Test is available online in English and French. If you need to take the test in another language, contact Registry of Motor Vehicles to review your options and make arrangements to take the test with an interpreter.
You need to complete each part of the test within 30 minutes. You should get the test results right away. If you take the test online and your test is flagged for review, it should take 1 week to get your test results.

Anyone applying for a first license, or anyone changing their license classification must take the exams, but the written test and road test may be waived if you currently hold a valid out-of-State license. A vision test is required of all applicants. You may take a vision test at no fee when you appear for your written examination. Alternatively, you may have a doctor of your choice provide the exam at your expense and fill out the exam form. You will need to give the completed form to the driver's license examiner at the time of your driver's examination.
Written Test Information
The knowledge test consists of 30 questions and you must answer a minimum of 24 correctly to pass the test. Questions will cover several topic areas, including your understanding of the rules of the road, the meaning of various signs, pedestrian and bicycle safety, an awareness of Maine' s operating under the influence laws and the dangers associated with distracted driving. The practice questions at the end of each chapter of the study guide will aid you in your preparation for the written examination.
