Hungry Hearts Diner (Video Game)
Grandma (Hungry Hearts Diner)
General DNW: setting AU ('coffee shop au, modern au' etc), permanent non-canonical character death or serious injury, rape, unhappy/depressing endings (bittersweet is ok!)
Canon-specific DNW: Scarlett going back to her hometown to focus on being a mother.
!! These prompts have spoilers for Hungry Hearts Diner 1, 2, and the DLC for 2! There's a link to a youtube where you can watch all of 2 without buying the DLC in my letter. !!
I just love these games. I love the cozy feeling, the way the story unfolds, and the way it leans into food as a way to create/bind together family, friends, and community. I asked for Grandma as I love the food/diner theme of the series, but it's fine with me if you want to center other characters - feel free to go with whatever other characters from the first or second game appeal to you! Or first AND second, for that matter - certainly more of the characters from the first game besides Mabo and Hiro could come visit Grandma at the new diner.
Prompt ideas:
1. In the Hawaii or Bust 2 sidestory in HHD2, it turns out Grandma's mother was a medium from Mt. Osore. INTERESTING. Any other supernatural adventures Grandma may have had (and/or cooked for), please tell me about them!
2.Pigtails from the first HHD has a single mom. Rika from HHD2 has a single dad. Mabo totally needs TWO girl besties. I mean, they have a plausible meeting point in the diner before the end of HHD2, right? ...right?
3. I would really REALLY like to know that everything worked out for Sapphire post-HHD2. There's a line in "Love is a Battlefield" where she wonders if she could get Grandma to teach her how to cook - some kind of vignettes exploring her life post-game while she has cooking lessons, maybe? Elaborating on the conversation she had with Grandma about their origins and reasons for being in Tokyo? P.P.S I also kind of absolutely ship Hiro/Kiyoko/Sapphire especially with the way she burst out crying when she found out Hiro and Kiyoko were married, if you want to take it that way.
4. What attracts Mr. Jizo to Grandma's diner in particular? What is it like, being aware of the fourth wall? Are there other monks who also know? Does he ever get more open with Grandma that they're in a video game?
5. UHM I kind of started shipping it when Mr. Grimm asked Grandma to look at his legs and she got all flustered. Grandma/Mr.Grimm ghostly flirtations? Maybe? +Grandpa if you're into it? (Does Grimm know Slick?)
6. CROSSOVER TIME: There are SO MANY Japanese food-themed canons that would be a natural mix with this if you play loose with time: Samurai Gourmet, Kantaro the Sweet-Tooth Salaryman, Midnight Diner, etc. Go hog wild. Grandma solves the problems of Kantaro and/or the Samurai Gourmet seems particularly apropos.

First, please take this as an OR request - I would be just as happy with fic about Miryem or Wanda individually as well as Miryem-and-Wanda. I just feel like I got enough of Miryem-and-the-Staryk in the book, so if you'd rather focus on Miryem individually, I'd like to read about another part of her life. I am totally open to Miryem/Wanda shipping, though, if you want to go that way!
And now: I love everything about this book. I love the intertwined stories and the layering of the fish-out-of-water theme with the Mandelstams in the village, Wanda with the Mandelstams and the Moshels, Miryem in the Staryk kingdom. Even though I didn't ask for them specifically, I love Irina and Mirnatius negotiating the world's weirdest political marriage. I love the fairytale flavor with the rules of magic and contracts. I love all the background stories that dip into the main one. I love the growth and journeys that Miryem, Irina, and Wanda have, and the way that they learn their own strengths and abilities and use them so perfectly together.
Prompt ideas:
1. Slice of life from when Wanda, her brothers, and the parents Mandelstam are building up the little farm in the forest. Do they ever get to know the neighbors down the road? Does Mama ever help the Vitkuses again even though they have Mama Mandelstam now? (Does Mama Vitkus ever talk to Rakhel Mandelstam??) Is this life everything Wanda dreamed of? DOES THE WITCH EVER COME BACK TO HER HOUSE?? I feel like Wanda + the Witch could be fascinating no matter what the witch is like
2. Relatedly, Wanda and Stepon and Sergei learning to become a real family is EVERYTHING and I would absolutely love to read more about it/missing scenes surrounding it from any point in canon or anything afterwards in the house.
3. Miryem teaching Wanda how to read and write!! We get a little of Wanda learning math and then at the end, oh yeah, I can read the Tsar's letter because Miryem also taught me to read. I would love more detail about these lessons!
4. Relatedly, if Wanda got in a bargain with a Staryk, could her reading & math become literal magic like Miryem's turning silver-to-gold did? What might that look like?
5. I would love any additional scenes about Miryem, Flek, Rebekah, Shofer, and Tsop. Worldbuild about Staryk names! Tell me how life has changed for them being bonded to the Open-Handed! Has Miryem started a horrifying, subversive, counter-culture Staryk fad of saying "Thank you" to people? Do Tsop and Shofer have families, or are they being courted now that they're nobility? Did Flek tell her ex to go sit on a fire?
6. Random Fiddler on the Roof crossover time: Hey WHAT IF any/all of Tevye's family fell between universes on the way out of Anatevka and wandered into Lithvas? Fyedka and Chava living with the Vitkuses! Tzeitel and Motel getting help starting a shop from grandpa Mandelstam! Miryem and the Staryk rescuing Perchik and Hodel from Siberia?? WHO KNOWS. IT ALL SOUNDS GREAT.

I really enjoy the way Maia is positioned suddenly as ultimate authority and also ultimately out of his depth in a way that leaves him very vulnerable. (hey I have a type). I am totally open to gen or any ship (except my dnws) in this canon. I love Maia a lot, but am happy for him to share the stage with anyone you would like to tell a story about.
Prompt ideas:
1. I love the Maia-and-Csevet dynamic and would love any kind of exploration or missing scene bit of that at any stage during canon - or post-canon, as Csethiro comes into the mix more. Seeing everything from Csevet's POV could be really interesting, too. Perfectly open to ship or gen for this.
2. I also love the way that Beshelar and Cala slowly adjust to Life In MaiaLand(tm) and the growing changes in their relationships with each other and with Maia as he gets his feet more. Any missing scenes or elaborations on this would be great too. Also fine with ship or gen (with each other, with Maia, with Csevet, with... anyone except Setheris or Tethimar).
3. Maia and Vedero! What *was* her reaction to not having to marry for a year? What will happen when that year is up?
4. AU where Chenelo didn't die. ???? (or, missing scene/s from before she did)
5. I really want to know how Maia and Csethiro will grow into a marriage. There must be a million more things they have to work out before it comes together into a real alliance (or real love) - I would love the story of any of them.
