L'Orsa | The She-Bear - Giambattista Basile
Preziosa | The Princess of Rough-Rock (L'Orza | The She-Bear), The Prince of Running-Water (L'Orza | The She-Bear)

Treats are absolutely welcome! Letter for more details, but in summary: this fairytale is the most absurd, delightful nonsense that also happens to be about finding safety and trust in the aftermath of betrayal.
Things I love:
a. The ridiculous, melodramatic non-alpha hero prince. This guy is All Feelings, All The Time; he's a flailing, loudly emotional mess who talks too much, begs a lot, and does impulsive things like Take A Bear Home After First Being Scared Shitless By It (Please, Mum, Can I Keep It?). He pines so hard that he makes himself sick. Look, all I'm saying is that I'm pretty sure he's a needy bottom, and I would love fic that leans into that.
b. The fact that the princess turns into a proper bear—none of this Fucking Around With A Weird Coat nonsense to escape her creepy dad, she's an eight foot tall fuck-off grizzly bear with claws. And since nobody can make a bear do anything if it doesn't want to, it means that she gets to make her own decisions, to be in control of who gets access to her real self, and and to say no. It's the Consent And Boundaries version of a power fantasy, and I am 100% Here for it.
c. At heart, this is a post-trauma story about someone allowing herself to be seen and known again, instead of having to hide everything that identifies her (as human, even). How does she get to that point? What helps her feel safe enough to be herself again, or to trust the prince? Does she bear up again whenever she's afraid?
2. DNWs: Please no bestiality, canonical bear-kissing aside. I'm also uninterested in being shown any incest—mentions and general vibes are okay, given canon, but actual details are not. Also in the nope bucket: bad endings. Mindbreak. Inescapable suffering; cruelty + humiliation without repair; distress without hope or support (I avoid the whump tag)—but I'm okay with any level of grief and the difficulties of recovery, with difficult relationships if there's escape or hope of change, and with some trauma shit if it's matched by comfort, soothing or support (if it's particularly harrowing, I'd also prefer a warning). No also to infidelity, PWP, rape as wallpaper/villain backstory or being in the head of a predatory character with no compassion.
3. This isn't a DNW, but it is a warning: I'm not the best person to write lengthy, explicitly detailed sex scenes for. I always prefer feelings and sexual tension to full-on going-at-it, and prefer sex teased at or sparingly used for relational tension, character development or atmosphere. This isn't a DNW, though, and if it makes you happy to write it, go for it! But this is a heads-up that if you do feature the fic equivalent of close-up shots of no-holds-barred rawing, I'll probably steer politely away from mentioning them in my comments.
4. Relationally, I'm not a huge fan of love at first sight, even if princes do seem to enjoy taking exactly one look before falling in love (if you don't genuinely know someone, do you really love them or do you love your idea of them?). And frankly, given that Preziosa hid in the first place because of the marital decisions her father made based on her beauty, the prince making a similar snap judgement based off seeing her beauty once seems... like a pretty shit echo. This ain't a DNW either, though, and if there's something you'd really like to explore here, have at! But otherwise I'm pretty skeptical about this concept.
5. Likes (general + relational): AUs, what-ifs, tropes, crackfic taken seriously and canon settings are all excellent! So are fics about comfort, recovery, trust and healing. Quiet, steady devotion and constancy have my heart, as do people being gentle and patient with each other. I also love mutual pining, trust issues, soft boys, guarded people learning how to let someone in, and romantic relationships between equals who respect each other's competence. Also fantastic: all kinds of touch and longing. Teasing. D/s dynamics, especially the unbearably soft kind. Being held; being held down (or still, or up against walls). Vulnerability, skin hunger and being touch-starved; intense awareness of the other person and their nearness.

Die sechs Schwäne | The Six Swans (Fairy Tale)
Any

Treats are absolutely welcome! Letter for more details, but in summary: I find both the girl and her youngest brother intriguing, so I'm happy to read about either or both. In particular:
1. Talk to me about the sister's fierce determination to remain voiceless and therefore unable to save herself—in order to save her brothers. What keeps her going? What is she thinking? To me, it smacks of an iron fucking will—how much of a struggle is it for her, and is she allowed to communicate in other ways (interpretive dance? charades)?
2. What does she think about her husband? Was consent actually involved in that marriage—and if so, how? And once she can speak again, what changes in their relationship? I’d love it if a love story emerged under these circumstances, but I’m certainly not against a story of relational survival, as long as she ends up happy or hopeful at the end, whether it’s with or without him.
3. Tell me about the youngest brother, the one stuck with a swan's wing instead of a left arm, even after the happy ending. I think there could be a lot of loss and grief in being trapped as neither fish nor fowl, and perhaps even a sense of being made wrong, of being a mistake—especially if it involves losing a self and life you loved (more than one, even). What would it look like for him to come to terms with this, if ever?
4. I’d love a story where he fell in love with someone while a swan, and then has to go find them after his botched transformation (identity shenanigans are my fave!). Are they human? Are they a swan? Are they a stranded selkie, a mermaid, one of the twelve dancing princesses or a swan maiden? Is this Five Ways The Youngest Swan Brother Could Have Fallen In Love, And One Time He Actually Did?
5. Fucking swans, man. They're like geese. Give me obnoxious geese brothers flapping around their sister, trying to help with shirtmaking and pecking at the king. Could they save their niblings from being snatched? Wanna write me an untitled goose crossover? Admittedly, a horrible swan-goose who gets trapped as a half-human half-bird seems like a surprising amount of pathos to stick into the horrible goose framework, but it also seems like it could take that kind of depth.
6. DNWs: bad endings. Mindbreak. Inescapable suffering; cruelty + humiliation without repair; distress without hope or support (I avoid the whump tag)—but I am perfectly comfortable with any level of grief and the difficulties of recovery, fine with difficult relationships if there's escape or hope of change, and also fine with some trauma shit if it's matched by comfort, soothing or support (if it's particularly harrowing, I'd also prefer a warning). I'm also not up for infidelity, PWP, explicit non-con, rape as wallpaper/villain backstory or being in the head of a predatory character with no compassion.
7. The Queen's Thief - Megan Whalen Turner
Attolia | Irene, Eugenides (Queen's Thief)

Treats are absolutely welcome! Letter for more details, but in summary: THESE. TWO.
1. This is quite different from my other sign-ups because I'm really not sure what to say here other than to flail emphatically at their relationship and go MORE OF THIS PLEASE. I love these characters and their relationship; I love this series so much. Seriously, anything.
2. I love their complicated dynamic. That black hole of what Attolia did to Eugenides runs all the way through their relationship, and it affects them both in different ways, but also--the way they interact shows how much they believe that the other person loves them, and they talk about it. They're open and truthful with each other about the difficulties in their relationship, and they navigate it together.
3.I love Attolia's character, too --her sharpness, her survivor's ruthlessness and iron will, her perfect mask and reserve and guardedness, her possessiveness about what's hers--and how isolated and alone she is, and she knows it. I love that there are quiet, vulnerable parts to her that only Eugenides really sees, and is allowed to see. I particularly love that Attolia's love for Eugenides comes out in quiet moments as a carefulness that can shade into awkwardness, because she knows she scares him, and is helpless to know how to fix or heal it. I love that it renders her helpless in this specific way, when she's so much in charge the rest of the time.
4. I fucking love the way Eugenides loves Attolia --that he's been fascinated with her forever, and that that love remains even after the whole mutilation thing. I love that he turns towards her with this odd mix of fear and trust--he's afraid of her for many excellent nightmare-related reasons, but he's also not afraid to push her, both because that’s just how he’s made when it comes to fear, and also because he genuinely believes she loves him. He walks the edge of her patience like he does buildings, reckless and trusting, with a similar surety that the people involved won't let him drop.
5. DNWs: bad endings. Mindbreak. Inescapable suffering; cruelty for the sake of cruelty, humiliation without repair; distress without hope or help (I avoid the whump tag)—but I am perfectly comfortable with any level of grief and the difficulties of trauma recovery. I'm also fine with difficult relationships if there's escape or hope of change, and with some trauma shit if it's matched by comfort, soothing or support (if it's particularly harrowing, I'd also prefer a warning). I'm not okay with infidelity, PWP, explicit non-con, rape as wallpaper/villain backstory or being in the head of a predatory character with no compassion.
6. This isn't a DNW, but it is a warning: I'm not the best person to write lengthy, explicitly detailed sex scenes for. I always prefer feelings and sexual tension to full-on going-at-it, and prefer sex either teased at or sparingly used for relational tension, character development and atmosphere. This isn't a DNW, though, and if it makes you happy to write it or you feel your fic needs it, go for it! I'm certainly not averse to sex, particularly in this fandom. But this is a heads-up that if you do feature the fic equivalent of close-up genital shots of no-holds-barred rawing, I'll probably steer politely away from mentioning them in my comments.
7. Likes (general + relational): What-ifs, tropes, crackfic taken seriously and canon settings are all excellent! (I'd prefer no modern AUs in this specific fandom, however.) So are fics about comfort, recovery, trust and healing; quiet, steady devotion and constancy have my heart, as do people being gentle and patient with each other. I also love mutual pining, trust issues, careful and guarded people learning how to let someone in, and romantic relationships between equals who respect each other's competence. Also sexual tension and hunger, longing, all kinds of touch, and D/s dynamics, especially the unbearably soft kind. Being held; being held down (or still, or up against walls). Shifting power dynamics where nobody is entirely sure who has the upper hand. Teasing, vulnerability; intense awareness of the other person and being super affected by them.
