Prompt:
Debrief! I love Debrief. Everyone should play Debrief. I picked Jean and Dora because I am so curious about both of them and I think there’s a lot of fun open space to play in, and also I love stories about sisters. Happy for you to include either one or both of them and focus on their relationship with each other or other people.
One thing I really love about Debrief is how much each character’s understanding of their life and relationships are colored by their perspective, to the point that they deeply misunderstand the people they love, and how this can end up playing out as an aspect of the hidden information in the game. Eg, in my playthrough I-as-Russell asked Alderidge about Jean seeming lonely, extremely startling my friend playing Alderidge, because their character sheet doesn’t really talk about Jean being unhappy in her marriage. The game files put this much more succinctly as “the difficulty of interpersonal knowledge.” Anyway, all that to say that I would love to see something from Dora or Jean’s perspective that contradicts or doesn’t quite align with what either of the character sheets say about them or their situation—what about their lives did their husbands misread or misunderstand or just not notice? What do they believe about the world that colors their perception of it? What would either of their own character sheets say?
Some other assorted ideas:
- Either Dora or Jean or both of them dealing with a scenario where George has come back from Berlin capital-H Haunted by Alderidge. Lots of potential for fun misery, for everyone!
- Any kind of Dora and Jean sister fic. Them growing up together, Jean’s reaction to Dora marrying her husband’s best friend, them dealing with Alderidge’s death and its aftermath.
- Dora’s courtship and relationship with Russell or Jean’s with Alderidge. I’m honestly very curious how Jean and Alderidge’s marriage felt from her perspective—did she ever suspect any of his secrets? Did she eventually figure out he was always playing a character with her?

I looooove their weird romance. Their kind of cat and mouse game and constant power struggle and the way they’re drawn to each other was one of my favorite parts of The Likeness. I love Daniel’s conviction, how calm and calculating he is (him turning back the clocks and making everyone sit down and play cards after they kill Lexie……..buddy!!!), and especially how much he loves his friends and crucially, how incredibly bad at it he is! I love Cassie’s weird feelings about Lexie and all of the Whitethorn crew, and how tempted she is by their life, and how she continually gets drawn in by them and is constantly doing things to endanger her life and her job because of how intoxicating they are. Also I love how much of The Likeness is about how landlords and the English suck.
Feel free to include other characters (the rest of the Whitethorn crew, Frank, Lexie’s lingering ghost, etc) as needed! I am honestly not terribly interested in Cassie’s relationship with Sam by itself, but I am kind of interested in how her messy relationship with Daniel might, uh, create problems for it. Also I’m sure this is clear, but I’m fine with infidelity, lol. Sorry Sam.
Some potential prompts:
- What is more romantic than being haunted! I’d be interested in reading about Cassie in the aftermath of The Likeness, dealing with Daniel’s death and her complicated feelings about it.
- Maybe she is literally haunted by Daniel’s ghost, or just metaphorically, or the Tana French sweet spot of maybe magic is real or maybe it isn’t??
- Something about them having a tryst (well, more of one …) during their time at Whitethorn House. I’m a simple woman, sorry @ Sam but I think they should fuck, or make out more for “tactical” “reasons”
- I always love stories with weird identity Stuff. If you want to play with how their relationship is affected by the looming specter of Lexie, I think that would be fun!
- What if Daniel survived the end of The Likeness, through whatever plot machinations you like? It would be interesting to see how his and Cassie’s relationship might continue—my immediate thought was him disappearing and writing her weird letters, but I feel like this could go a lot of ways.

I love this show!! I was so disarmed by it when I first watched it—it’s both incredibly goofy and also deeply charming and earnest, and I feel like despite its inherent silliness it manages to capture something really genuine and true about, like, The Teenage Experience (tm), and all the sexuality and identity and genders and general feeling of AAAAH that comes with that. The characters are really endearing, and I want to give them all a hug, even and especially the ones who kind of suck (love you Vier, love you Rose!)
I find Rose and her relationship with Love in particular really compelling. The scene in the bathroom where Sean reveals he knows about Love, tries to bully her about it, and then ends up with basically just the emotion of “oh my god she’s crying and is so bad at this am I responsible for this water bottle now???” If you’re so inclined I definitely ship them. I love that Rose sucks, and that she’s completely insane (TWENTY YEARS??? FOR YOUR HIGH SCHOOL BOYFRIEND YOU BROKE UP WITH???) and I love how that plays off of Love’s earnestness and naivety and how disarmed by her Rose ends up being.
Potential prompts:
- Love uses the next wish she wins to give Rose the years of life she traded to the unicorn back. I think this would make Rose feel completely insane (affectionate) and it would be great for everyone involved.
- Anything about Rose wrestling with Gender post-canon—does she try to be Just Rose for a while and then realize she hates it? Does she call up Love and get snippy with her when Love tries to help? Does she get Love to express mail her some gender lake water in Germany and refuse to talk about it?
- In general I do love the idea of Love and Rose becoming pen pals post-canon, or calling each other up for girl* chats.
- Sean and Love really talking about their Vier Feelings. Possibly kissing about their Vier Feelings?? who can say!!
- I think Rose like…struggling to recognize that she has a crush on Love because she’s been so dedicated to Being In Love With Vier would be fun. It’s such a huge aspect of her identity and I think it might be hard for her to Deal with liking someone else.
Re: Rose/Sean and Gender, I don’t have strong feelings about how this is actually expressed in fic (pronouns, names, whatever), and it doesn’t need to be the focus of the fic, but I would rather it not be like, “Rose is uncomplicatedly cis and a girl now! Sean who?”

The intricate rituals…inventing quasi-platonic bdsm with your foil To Cope….truly absolutely no one in the world is doing it like these two. I’m obsessed. I love the way their relationship kind of eludes categorization (is it platonic? is it romantic? are they soulmates? no one knows but it’s DEFINITELY gay), I love their foiliness, I love how they both deal Very Differently with their gender situations, I love that neither of them are normal At All.
Potential prompts:
- More quasi-platonic bdsm To Cope. really just. Anything in this vein. Does Xu Da or Ma eventually point out to Zhu that she should probably not be leaving this guy alone after sticking needles in him and should perhaps “take” “care” of him. Does she have to tie Ouyang down to make this happen without him scratching her eyes out. Etc.
- AU where Zhu manages to dom Ouyang into not abandoning her cause due to internalized gender nightmare feelings. This would absolutely go really badly for everyone! I am just always thinking about that moment when Ouyang saying he could dress as a woman if Zhu hurt him badly enough to make him. I truly have faith that they could have kinked their way into Ouyang being able to stay with Zhu!!
- I’d love more interaction between Zhu and Ouyang’s ghost, at any point.
- In light of Ouyang and Esen’s we’ll try again in the next life, I’d actually love something about Zhu and Ouyang meeting again in another life too. Can’t escape your foilmance soulmate!
- Anything where Zhu and Ouyang Talk About Gender. I think this would be excruciating for Ouyang and absolutely fine for Zhu and that would just make it even MORE excruciating for Ouyang <3

I love that Ludo isn’t scared of Luck, that she’s selfish, and that she’s too focused on sea sponges to notice that she is extremely gay. I love that Luck is cocky and loves to be worshipped, and that they find Ludo’s audacity when faced with a literal evil god Fascinating. There’s so little fic for this fandom so I would adore pretty much anything about these two!

Very predictably to all who know me, I watched this show and immediately became obsessed with the (kind of) villain couple who are forced together because of their mutual love for a dead guy. I love the main throuple, but Mae and Ter’s scenes absolutely stole the show for me.
Something about Ter as a character is really compelling to me—the almost awkward way he holds himself and never quite looks anyone in the eye, how much he’s someone who clearly wants to be told what to do and does NOT want to be the brains of the operation—I love how his and Mae’s dynamic almost evolves into her inheriting his leash from Phon. sorry for putting it like that but, well, not sorry enough!
Usually I eat angst up with a spoon, but in this case if you go post-canon I really would love something where Ter survives the end of the show (in some capacity–I’m not opposed to literal ghosts!). This can be a fix-it, or just like “we’re just going to ignore all that!” about his death, whatever, I’m not picky, I just cannot deal with him dying while he was WAITING FOR HER WITH FLOWERS.
I would also love something about their developing relationship during the course of the show, and maybe something dealing with the shadow of Phon on both their lives—love a fic that’s two people kissing about how much they miss someone else. Love it when there is a ghost in the room!! I’d love something where they talk about the different sides of Phon they both saw and share memories about him, and maybe feel jealous of each other’s relationship with Phon. Speaking of ghosts, if you’d like to include Phon, again am not opposed to literal ghosts!

Ludo is such a fun charming character, and Luck was designed in a lab for me to be obsessed with them. Who doesn’t love a weird sexy she/they idiot dirtbag lesbian pirate monster who gives a girl their coat and is also a weird sealdog with a bow on their head? I love that Ludo isn’t scared of Luck, that she’s selfish, and that she’s too focused on sea sponges to notice that she is extremely gay. I love that Luck is cocky and loves to be worshipped, and that they find Ludo’s audacity when faced with a literal evil god Fascinating. There’s so little fic for this fandom so I would adore pretty much anything about these two!
Some ideas:
- I love Dream Stuff, so anything more about Luck and Ludo wandering around in each other’s dreams/memories would be really fun.
more of Ludo taking one look at Luck and deciding I Must Study You. She’s a scientist! You think she’s NOT gonna study the weirdo monster??
- Ludo getting sexily possessed by Luck, maybe kind of Venom style. you know, for Reasons.
- Ludo works really hard and I think she should get to fuck a hot shapeshifting monster. She deserves it!
- I’m interested in like, the experience of being Luck vs Maldoror as a kind of fractured by still connected identity, and where those pieces overlap, if you want to write anything exploring that!

Very predictably to all who know me, I watched this show and immediately became obsessed with the (kind of) villain couple who are forced together because of their mutual love for a dead guy. I love the main throuple, but Mae and Ter’s scenes absolutely stole the show for me.
Something about Ter as a character is really compelling to me—the almost awkward way he holds himself and never quite looks anyone in the eye, how much he’s someone who clearly wants to be told what to do and does NOT want to be the brains of the operation—I love how his and Mae’s dynamic almost evolves into her inheriting his leash from Phon. sorry for putting it like that but, well, not sorry enough!
Usually I eat angst up with a spoon, but in this case if you go post-canon I really would love something where Ter survives the end of the show (in some capacity–I’m not opposed to literal ghosts!). This can be a fix-it, or just like “we’re just going to ignore all that!” about his death, whatever, I’m not picky, I just cannot deal with him dying while he was WAITING FOR HER WITH FLOWERS.
I would also love something about their developing relationship during the course of the show, and maybe something dealing with the shadow of Phon on both their lives—love a fic that’s two people kissing about how much they miss someone else. Love it when there is a ghost in the room!! I’d love something where they talk about the different sides of Phon they both saw and share memories about him, and maybe feel jealous of each other’s relationship with Phon. Speaking of ghosts, if you’d like to include Phon, again am not opposed to literal ghosts!
