I have not yet read the books, so please don't worry if you haven't either! Also, feel free to use/make references to book canon, as long as it doesn't conflict with show canon, but be aware that I may not recognize them. And I do plan to read the books, so please try to avoid book spoilers if possible!

Very okay with general worldbuilding without any canon characters! Would also be okay with either Juliette and Hanna (we get such tantalizing glimpses of Juliette's childhood), or Juliette and Paul (I love that they see the world so differently, and yet start to recognize that they can be useful to each other); don't feel that you need to shoehorn all three in.

I am okay with general worldbuilding without any canon characters, and I am also okay if you would like to focus on Adam and Rao's relationship without getting into wider worldbuilding. (I spent some time living in Central Asia, so the glimpses of their time in Uzbekistan were very fun for me!)
