Maniac (TV) 

Dr. Azumi Fujita, Dr. James K. Mantleray

How good, first of all, were Sonoya Mizuno and Justin Theroux in Maniac? How good were they at ridiculous-yet-raw screwball chemistry? I had such a sense of their history and the resilient, microscopically enacted mutual attraction between these two OTT, twitchy individuals. I deeply wish we’d spent the whole show—which brings me to this.

Two options that I would love:

- The simple: Backstory!!! Also post-show! Backstory AND postshow! Meeting, established relationship, breakup, future, just... more of them together. Like I said, they have amazing taut screwball chemistry and I wanted to spend the whole show with them.

- The more complicated and the MVP: I truly think this would be a better and cleaner show if they were the ones in the simulations and also, it would be hot and interesting. Whether as an AU or a post-show, two scientist exes with nothing to lose putting themselves in the sim and finding each other over and over in different scenarios and genres and aesthetic setups? (The baggage of the GRTA would have done much more interesting interference with them, js.) I leave this in your hands. Put them in the existing scenarios/aesthetics or invent your own, go plotwild or just indulge in how good they’d look in 30s clothes — go wild, do the most.

That's an open ending if ever I saw one, and I definitely left off imagining the two girls finding each other in the future—for good, for bad, for ugly, for all of the above. I would love to see them playing grown-up cat and mouse with each other, in a sort of Connecticut Killing Eve.

Monks! In! LOVE. Backstory fic PLEASE. Indulgent, extensive, detailed pining with a sense of setting, THANKS. I like tragedy but boy this one was a formative emotional ass-kicking — to the point where, if you want to go whole hog alternate everybody-lives ending, I would not be opposed.
