Take Two (TV 2018)
Eddie Valetik, Melissa Larson, Sam Swift (Take Two)

I'm open to any combo of ships & gen for these three, so Eddie/Sam, Eddie/Melissa, Sam/Melissa, Eddie/Sam/Melissa, and/or exploration of friendship for any of those combos. Obviously there's a sexual (under)current to their interactions on the show, so if you want to explore that, or flip it on its head & have them discover that they can really relate on a friendship level. They were all kind of charmed by each other in a really sweet way, even though they were on opposing sides, and that's what I'd like to see more of.
The only thing I really don't want to see is a competition/jealousy vibe. If there's a little knife's-edge of that to start with, cool, but I want everyone to "get along." Definitely no cheating.
Ideas:
- The team goes out to celebrate after the case. Melissa blatantly flirts with both Sam and Eddie, and they both flirt back. Berto and Monica are like “*eyes emoji* so we’re gonna go……” The three of them play tipsy darts. (Tipsy pool? Melissa’s a secret pool shark? Is a dart shark a thing?)
- Sam has to go on a woman-only dating app for a case. Guess who she finds on there. (Does she tell Eddie? Or does she innocently decide to start messaging Melissa?)
- A slightly silly noir pastiche based on a Humphrey Bogart movie, or maybe a caper from the same era? (Sam as Bogart?)
- New case, completely different crime, somehow Melissa is involved? Tax fraud, inheritance fraud (Melissa ingratiates herself with a lonely old lady in order to con her inheritance?), murder but she’s innocent??

Considering the way the show left off, there’s kind of three options for fic: before Joanna left the first time (aka high school), during the show (when apparently Joanna had no time for anything except five minute rendezvous in her car?), or after *something* brings Joanna back. Any or all of those are fine, and ship and gen are both fine.
The only two things I don’t want are character death and cheating. If it’s gen, Diane/Owen is fine in the background, and if it’s ship, just not when they’re in a relationship please.
Ideas:
- What would happen if Diane suddenly needed a co-parent and there was literally no one who could help her but Joanna? (I'm thinking more romcom/silly than angsty but do your thing.)
- Did Diane really blame Joanna for leaving, or did she maybe think it was her fault? What if there was a kiss, or an almost-kiss, or a fight, or a misunderstanding, right before Joanna left?
- What if the *something* that brings Joanna back involves Diane? Not a death, but an event or an injury? Maybe Diane needs an urgent co-parent because she’s stuck in the hospital, so Joanna has to do the parent part alone?
- What if Luna needs help, but she doesn’t want to bother Joanna so she asks Diane, but then Diane calls Joanna anyway?
- WHAT IF Joanna is already in town for whatever reason and they just want to have a movie night? With wine? Or Diane comes to spend a long weekend in Toronto and Joanna shows her around?

Are they going to be okay? Like, I’m so glad the ending was optimistic(ish), but there’s definitely a lot of room to wonder. Not only do they both have PTSD, but they’ve fostered this codependence that isn’t necessarily going to be that easy to shake. I’d love to see them trying to adjust back to real life (whatever that is) but still finding they need each other.
I do ship this, but gen with the same intensity as canon is also great. Mentioning of past trauma is fine, but please don't relive it in detail or add to it. Please no ship that involves cheating, so basically as long as the (ex-)husband(s) are out of the picture it's all good.
Ideas:
- The kids end up at the same school or extracurricular and Catherine and Sandra show up and see each other like “oh no.”
- Is Catherine going to divorce her husband and find somewhere to live? Does she need Sandra’s help with that?
- Is Christiane okay? Where is she. Even though Sandra essentially used her I think she cares about her and would want to know she’s okay.
- What if Sandra needs to go undercover and she decides it’s a good idea for Catherine to be her fake wife/girlfriend (yes it sounds ridiculous but she’s not exactly known for making sensible choices under pressure)
