A story exploring Kane and Nepenthe’s mother-daughter relationship would be interesting. The book ends with Kane choosing to stay with her daughter, but…How does a worlds-conquering assassin get along with a humble castle scribe? Does Nepenthe feel any resentment about being abandoned, even if she understands her mother’s actions from a logical perspective? Does Kane ever miss Axis? How does Kane feel about missing out on Nepenthe’s childhood? Does she ever feel guilty about leaving her daughter?

Night In The Woods (Video Game)
Mae Borowski, Selma Ann "Selmers" Forrester
I really enjoyed exploring the town as Mae in the game, and the way she (and the player through her) fell into the rhythm of daily life (feeding the rat babies, chatting with Mae’s mom and Germ, etc.) and how forming these relationships would pay off during the course of the game (e.g., when the ghost of Mae’s grandpa visits her when she’s sleeping at the church or visiting Germ’s house). Selmers is an essential part of this routine—of Mae building a life of her own, outside of her teenage friend group—and I would appreciate a story that explored their friendship in more detail.
Maybe Mae talks to Selmers about her difficulties at school and how bad she feels letting her parents down, or maybe Selmers and Mae collab on a music/spoken word project with Mae playing bass and Selmers reciting her poetry. Or maybe Selmers helps Mae express her feelings through poetry.

Maybe something set after the end of the story, after Rainbow takes Hester down to the deep. What is it like, living in some shitty nightmare dimension? Does Hester have any second thoughts, or does she take to living in the deep like a fish to water? Or…Family dinners and holidays are about to get a lot more awkward for the Blakes. How does the family deal with Hester marrying what is essentially the family’s boss?
Alternatively, a story that expands on Hester and Rainbow’s adventures while Rainbow is trying to woo an oblivious Hester would be cool. Maybe they run into some other supernatural being, like a haunted house or lesbian vampire, and choose to play Scooby-Doo.
