Congrats on succesfully completing your fieldtip!

So, what have your learnt?
Which part of your textbook/classroom lesson has "came alive" for you
during the fieldtrip?
What questions came to your mind during your fieldtrip?
Share these with us on this blog.

- So, what have your learnt?
Formation of spits and tombolos since they are formed by long shore
drift which gave us a better understanding.

- Which part of your textbook/classroom lesson has "came alive" for
you during the fieldtrip?
As mention earlier, Spits and tombolos

-What questions came to your mind during your fieldtrip? Share these
with us on this blog.
How do they affect the coast we see.

I learn that this natural formation is right under our noses without
us actually noticing

all the parts on the presentation u showed has literally came to life

the question i usually ask is how in the world does this affect us.

-So what have you learnt?
After this fieldtrip,I had gain a greater understanding of the
formation of longshore drifts and how it changes the with the wind
direction.

Which part of your textbook/classroom lesson has ''come alive'' for
you during the fieldtrip?

I think that it is the explaining of the formation of spits and
tombolos due to longshore drifts which has ''come alive'' for me
during the fieldtrip.

What questions came to your mind during your fieldtrip?

The questions that came to my mind during my fieldtrip is why when the
longshore currents encounter a bay or a bend in the coast with shallow
sheltered water, the materials they carry will be deposited in the
direction of the longshore drift.

>what have i learnt?
i have learnt that the waves of longshore drift approaches the shore
at an angle.I have also observed that it changes according to the wind
direction
> Which part of your textbook/classroom lesson has "came alive" for you
> during the fieldtrip?
the swash and backswash of the wave
> What questions came to your mind during your fieldtrip?
why the waves of longshore drift seems weaker?

you mean the longhshore drift or the spit?
You will see a spit only at changi in s'pore.

Natural processes cause active erosion at the east coast park and
labrador park. If not for coastal management here, the recreational
use of these areas will be affected - think of NO beach at ECParkway.

At the bend, energy is reduced and material is deposited. But the
longshore drift still moves straight ahead and carries the sediments
along. So if the area is shallow, the deposits will accumulate and
form a spit.
But if it is deep, or the currents to remove it are very strong,
accumulation will be very slow and no spit.
Remember, not all bends of a coast line have spits!

So, what have your learnt?
I have learn about how cliffs are formed.

Which part of your textbook/classroom lesson has "came alive" for you
during the fieldtrip?
The presentations of every group helps me to understand better than in
the textbook

What questions came to your mind during your fieldtrip?
Can a huge sediment be transported away?

-So, what have your learnt?
A groyne is a hydraulic structure(wall) built from a coast(beach) that
interrupts water flow and limits the movement of sediment. In the
ocean, groynes create beaches and avoid the sediments to be washed
away by longshore drift. Groynes are useful. However, it may cause a
shoreline to be perceived as unnatural and ugly.

-Which part of your textbook/classroom lesson has "came alive" for you
during the fieldtrip?
coast protection ( groynes )

-What questions came to your mind during your fieldtrip?
Share these with us on this blog.
what are groynes and where are the sediments accumulated.

So, what have your learnt?
I have learn to identified the formation of split.
Which part of your textbook/classroom lesson has "came alive" for you
during the fieldtrip?
The explanation of the formation.
What questions came to your mind during your fieldtrip?
The way and the amount of time needed for it to form.

i have learnt that erosion of large rocks really requires a large
amount of wave energy to be eroded.
> Which part of your textbook/classroom lesson has "came alive" for you
> during the fieldtrip?
i saw how the sediments are being eroded and the difference in the
amount of wave energy needed to erode sediments of different sizes and
mass
> What questions came to your mind during your fieldtrip?
why will the wave energy be able to carry sediments off shore.

-After learning more about tombolo and spits, what was best during the
fieldtrip was that, we managed to see it for ourselves and apply what
we learnt from the textbook to the felidtrip.
> What questions came to your mind during your fieldtrip?
-What are the disadvantages of tombolo and spits?

* So, what have your learnt?

I have learnt about the formation of a cliff, with a better
understanding of it's processes.

* Which part of your textbook/classroom lesson has "came alive" for
you
during the fieldtrip?

The pictures I saw in powerpoint slides was seen in reality, and I
understood better of explanations just by looking at the natural
environment. ( e.g. waves, swash )

* What questions came to your mind during your fieldtrip?

Are cliffs permanent? Will a huge portion of rock get eroded or simply
just crack and fall?

-The formation and the features.

What questions came to your mind during your fieldtrip?
-Where else can we find spits?

> So, what have your learnt?
I have learnt that not all swash and backwash is very powerful
everytime.
> Which part of your textbook/classroom lesson has "came alive" for you during the fieldtrip?
how you can see and feel the swash and backwash.
> What questions came to your mind during your fieldtrip?
how long will the rock become as small as a sand with a series of
continuation and swash and backwash

What have you learnt?
Gabions are used to protect the river banks against erosion. They are
cheaper, however their lifespan is shorter than other coastal
protection measures.

Which part of your textbook/classroom lesson has "came alive" for you
during the fieldtrip?
The image of the gabions with wire cages containing small rocks. With
this, I've a clearer view of gabions.

What questions came to your mind during your fieldtrip?
Why people still built gabions even they will not last long. Although
it seems to be cheaper, but when comparing with cost and maintenance,
i think maintenance will be better.

So, what have your learnt?
The formation on tombolos and spits by long shore drift.

Which part of your textbook/classroom lesson has "came alive" for you
during the fieldtrip?
The tombolos formed by the long shore drift

Will the tombolos and splits affect the people's live?
