Hi Guys

Please use this thread for all Technical Discussions. After discussion we will settle on a solution and then move the solution to "ySchool Overview" Thread.

Please try to practice this at all times so that its easier to keep track.

regards,
Jason

Jason, Just one question.

Is this a simple Java based technology stack ? We would like to get a lot of students involved with us on this. Will the selected technologies be a stumbling block for them?
btw I am not a fan of Vaadin ;) But I will let you make the call.

On another note - I think it will be nice if we can create a set of mock HTML based pages and convert that as the requirement specification. I can also do some work on this if we take this route. At least to sketch the screen floors on paper.

Hi Sayanthan

Yes this will be the technologies, I know Vaadin has its downs but we believe Vaadin will be the best choice for this, we can have another discussion on this and finalize.

The technologies are more or less standard for a project of this scale, except for the fact we have used all the latest release versions ;)

It will not be a stumbling block at all :) we can systematically plan to start on one technology at a time and move a step at a time.

yes it will be nice to have some mock UIs. I would like to have a discussion and finalize on the high level scope before starting development, soon after finalizing we can start on the mock UIs, I would like you to drive the first step of the requirement so that everyone is on the same page.

Following are some tutorial which can be done in 5 - 10min this will help to get things started.

Once we started something like this would be of great help track quite a lot of stuff.

Looks like we could integrate this group to the wiki as well.

Jason and Nirojan, can we please set up the build structure by
tomorrow and create a basic framework to make it easier for others to
work on this.

Hi,

I wanted to remind few things, of course I know that you guys are good in this.
  • Hope that the framework that you are planning to use will provide Internationalization support.
  • Please make sure that system can handle Unicode including Tamil and Sinhala. Because people might like to have reports in their local languages.
  • Also I know that you will not hard code any locale information.
  • Decide on a good Localization resource file format as well. If possible, try to make PO as resource file format.

Regards, Sarves

Sayanthan

Wouldn’t it be better for us to enumerate all the requirements, it’s depth and scope while we set up the build structure for the project.

No issues i will look into the matter and prepare an initial draft in the form of a requirement spec.

Do we have the weekly call  this week? would like to have a chat with you before I get started on this.
