York Road Neighbors,
With kids back to school and the summer heat and humidity finally relenting, there are a couple of ways to get back in the swing of things here in our York Road community, too.
First,
this Saturday, August 30, is the rescheduled Heart of the Fourth Music & Arts Festival, now in DeWees Park from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. Two stages of live music and lots of local vendors and food! It is supposed to be an absolutely beautiful day in a gorgeous park right here on our corridor, and we hope you will come out.
And then we hope you can join us for the
York Road Partnership General Meeting this coming Wednesday, Sept. 3, 7:15 pm, at Govans Boundary United Methodist Church at 5210 York Road (enter from the back parking lot through the red door on the right
as shown on street view here). You can also
register for the Zoom option if you need to.
We'll have two main topics on the agenda:
- Utility Bills: Brandi Nieland, Director of Consumer Assistance for the Maryland Office of People's Counsel will join us to talk about ways to save on our utility bills. The Office of People's Counsel is Maryland's State-chartered advocate for ratepayers when it comes to State-regulated monopolies, like BGE. They are a terrific resource, and we hope you'll join us and spread the word so people on our corridor can learn more.
- York Road Collaborative: We have been discussing this evolving collaboration at YRP General Meetings, and earlier this month YRP signed an MOU with the York Road Improvement District and Invest York Road. The MOU creates a new York Road Collaborative where all three organizations will coordinate our programs, along with some of our fundraising, staffing, and communication. The idea is to align our work for maximum impact and to bring more resources here to our corridor, including a professional organizer for York Road Partnership. Please join us to discuss this effort and how you can help shape and support YRP's role in it!
Hope to see you over this coming week.
