York Road Neighbors,

There is a lot going on! First, tax season is in full swing, and the Maryland Comptroller's office has resources to help modest-income Marylanders. Please circulate the attached resources where you think people will benefit:
  • A flyer on the Earned Income Tax Credit, including a link & QR code where you can check your eligibility.
  • A flyer on ways the Comptroller's office can help with tax debt
And then this coming week there are many ways to learn more and help improve the York Road corridor and our communities:
  • Friends of DeWees Meeting: Monday, Feb. 23, 6:00 pm at DeWees Park Recreation Center, 5501 Ivanhoe Ave. See a presentation from Baltimore City Recreation and Parks on a long-sought new DeWees Park walking trail and memorial garden! A joint meeting with the Mid Govans Community Association.  Stay tuned to weather updates that may affect this meeting. Contact Sandi McFadden (smcfad...@gmail.com) or Marie Anderson (marie.a...@baltimorecity.gov) with any questions.
  • Youth Development Committee: Wednesday, Feb. 25, 6:30-8:00 pm at Govans Boundary United Methodist Church, 5210 York Road, with Zoom option here. Contact co-chairs Cindy Camp (campc...@yahoo.com) or Kaye Gooch (kaye....@gmail.com) for more info.
  • Housing & Neighborhood Revitalization Committee: Wednesday, Feb. 25, 7:00-8:15 pm at 5104 York Road Loyola Public Safety Community Conference Room (door at lower left X here) and via Zoom. Join us to talk with Councilwoman Odette Ramos about her work around recovery houses and assisted living facilities in neighborhoods. Contact Donna Blackwell (satn...@gmail.com) and Dan Pontious (dan.po...@icloud.com) with questions.
  • Fundraiser for My Father’s Plan: Thursday, Feb. 26, 7:00 pm at Zen West! $20 tickets at https://www.parlor-arts.com/events#gettickets. Come support the organization doing great work with young people in Pen Lucy and that will be acquiring and fixing up 4518 York Road into a new breakfast spot for the corridor.
And then coming up in March:
  • York Road Partnership General Meeting: Wednesday, March 4, 7:15 pm, Govans Boundary United Methodist Church, 5210 York Road, with Zoom option. Stay tuned for our agenda, which will include our neighborhood listening efforts, the YRP 2026 Nominating Committee, and more.
  • Ribbon Cutting - Turnaround Tuesday comes to Govans Boundary United Methodist Church! Thursday, March 12, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at 5210 York Road. A new hub for this second-chance jobs movement - which has placed more then 2,500 people in jobs in just 11 years - will be right here on the York Road corridor. Register here to attend this celebration!
Lots of exciting things right here on the York Road corridor. Plug in where your interest takes you, and stay tuned for more info.

Neighbors,

Because of the weather today, a couple of events are being postponed (other events in my email below are moving ahead as planned):
  • Friends of DeWees: With the Govans Recreation Center closing at 5:00 pm today, this 6:00 pm meeting tonight is being rescheduled to the March 30 Mid Govans Community Association meeting, also at DeWees Recreation Center. See a presentation from Baltimore City Recreation and Parks on a long-sought new DeWees Park walking trail and memorial garden! Contact Sandi McFadden (smcfad...@gmail.com) or Marie Anderson (marie.a...@baltimorecity.gov) with any questions.
  • NDMU Gator Thrift Pop-Up: This was going to be at the Govans Library this afternoon, but is now postponed. Follow @ndmugatorthrift on Instagram and/or contact Morgan Williamson at mwilli...@live.ndm.edu for info on a new date.
Also, some more March news:
  • March 4 YRP General Meeting: Following up on the info on the Earned Income Tax Credit I sent with my last email, Deli Okafor from the Maryland Comptroller's office will be joining us in person to talk about how we can get the word out about this important tax benefit for lower-income tax filers.
  • Free Financial Education Classes: Invest York Road is offering a mix of in-person (at the Govans Library) and virtual classes, March 16-19, covering Debt, Credit, Saving & Investing, and and Intro to Invest York Road. More info: https://www.investyorkroad.org/free-classes.html
Again, more info on upcoming events in my email below. Join where your interest takes you!
