York Road Neighbors,
There's lots happening today at 5104 York Road!
First,
Loyola's Govans Farmer's Market opens today for the 2026 season! Come by the lot at 5104 York Road (enter on Notre Dame Lane), 3-6 pm for fresh local produce and prepared food for a convenient dinner.
Then,
York Road Partnership holds our General Meeting tonight at 7:15 pm in Loyola's new Community-University space right nearby! Our
agenda is here. From the Market area look south across the parking lot, and you will see new plate-glass windows on the north side of the large building there (at the
Google Maps pin here). That's the new space! We'll be meeting there (plenty of parking right there), with our usual Zoom option (
register here).
There are some key people who can't make it tonight, so we are moving our recognition of two long-standing YRP leaders and Govans Boundary United Methodist Church to our Sept. 2 meeting. (We want to do it right.) We will be talking about exciting upcoming opportunities, though. On June 13, also at this new space, we will be hosting a chance for York Road neighborhood representatives to pick up cleaning & greening buckets, thanks to a grant from
Healthy Neighborhoods. Anyone can also join for coffee and snacks and conversation about how we want to improve our communities and corridor.
And then we have some exciting news to share about an
Aspen Institute grant recently received by Loyola for trust-building on the York Road corridor, working together with YRP, Govans Boundary United Methodist Church, and the York Road Improvement District. We can discuss how that will fit with YRP's broader listening and organizing work and start some quick conversations. This grant will bring resources for storytelling, neighborhood leadership development, and community-building spaces -- all to build stronger relationships and trust along our divided corridor. Come learn about it, and there will be plenty of opportunities to be part of it and help shape it as it moves forward.
Finally, we will discuss the requests that YRP and GEDCO plan to submit/endorse to the Maryland Dept. of Housing & Community Development's Baltimore Regional Neighborhood Initiative (BRNI) program, which just opened for proposals. In particular, we'll hear about one of those projects - the Belvedere Improvement Association's effort to fix up their newly-acquired lot just north of Staples into a new amenity for the corridor.
We hope you can join us tonight! Please reach out if you have any questions.
