Hi, Everyone!
Here's what's new with our garden progress:
Cleasa, Danna, and Steve came out yesterday. Steve brought another huge trailerload of compost. We tore up and torched
(depending on the part of the garden) pretty much the remaining sod.
What's left will just get buried under weed control fabric with a
little leveling of the sod and dirt here and there. That's happening today, as I'm
getting mulch and Danna and her kids will be coming out for her shift this afternoon, so the walking paths will start to appear in their
finished form. I've got about six varieties of lettuce, plus spinach,
working on germinating in a jar as I type. I might be sowing them today. The soil in the beds will probably be dry enough to dig by
Friday, and we'll be able to sow lots of other crops once that happens
and we put dirt, manure and fertilizer into the beds. It's really a
bummer that it's supposed to storm on Saturday! If things go well,
though, we'll have several beds dug and well prepared for sowing seeds.
I'll start pregerminating companion seed pairs/groups tomorrow so
they're germinating around Friday - or at least will be soon after we
put them into the ground on Friday.
We'll keep sowing in the same way: dig/prep a couple beds, and add the
seeds, till the whole garden is completed. It'll take a couple weeks.
Meanwhile I've been working on cold frames in the back yard to start growing some of the summer crops.
Tom will be putting in the fence probably next weekend.
I'm looking forward to seeing you as you as you come for your shifts! Reminder, the regular shifts have started. We'll be doing the really transformative work now.
Liev
