The Helmholtz Graduate School of Environmental Health (HELENA) offers several PhD positions based in Munich. 3 are in the field of epidemiology and one in the field of nutritional epidemiology (see attachments). German language skills are not a prerequisite. The application deadline is December 10th 2010 (see below).
Description:
Today's doctoral students are our future leaders - in research, clinical
work, industry and management. In order to ensure optimal use of their
potential, Helmholtz Zentrum München - together with
Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich (LMU) and Technische Universität
München (TUM) - opened the first Helmholtz Graduate School of Environmental
Health (HELENA) on November 1, 2010. HELENA qualifies a new generation of
internationally competitive graduate students in the field of environmental
health reserach. The interdisciplinary education within HELENA prepares the
graduate students to fill lead positions in research, management, industry
and administration.
HELENA offers training and challenging interdisciplinary, cutting-edge
doctoral thesis projects in the following areas of Environmental Health
research: Diabetes, Lung Biology, Neuro and Stem Cell Biology, Infection,
Immune and Tumor Biology, Epidemiology, Health Economics, Human Genetics,
Radiation Research, Ecosystems Biology, Systems Biology, Imaging and
Structural Biology. HELENA has openings for fully funded graduate student
positions. Highly qualified and motivated students from all nationalities
with a genuine interest in basic and translational research are invited to
apply. Applicants should hold a MSc or equivalent degree in biological
sciences, chemistry, bioinformatics, physics, veterinary or human medicine
or related lifesciences.
