The International Life Sciences Institute, European branch
is seeking an outstanding individual for the post of
Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer and Scientific Director

ILSI is a non-profit, worldwide foundation established in 1978 to
advance the understanding of scientific issues relating to nutrition,
food safety, toxicology, risk assessment, and the environment.

The successful applicant will have
 Exceptional leadership, intellect, and communication skills

 Strong personal integrity with the ability to maintain and develop
ILSI Europe as a driving force for the development of scientific
solutions for food safety, nutrition and environment issues identified
by industry, academia and governments

 A strategic thinker and networker with a track record of scientific
achievement acquired in the private or public sectors, who is
passionate about the science of food and nutrition

 An inspirational leader able to develop and maintain relationships
with external stakeholders, member companies, staff and scientific
members of task forces and expert groups

 A higher level degree in areas such as food science and technology,
biology, nutrition, toxicology or chemistry. Preferably with some
industry experience

 A good understanding of the commercial and regulatory environment

 Fluency in English. A working knowledge of French or another
European language is an advantage

 Willing to relocate to Belgium as the post is based in Brussels


The successful applicant will
 Be accountable to ILSI Europe Board of Directors comprising members
from private companies, the public sector and universities

 Ensure the development of institute’s vision, strategic plans and
achievement it’s overall goals

 Lead a team of 23 dedicated scientists and support staff who manage
the scientific programme of specialist task forces and projects

 Liaise with other ILSI staff worldwide to ensure optimal synergy and
use of resources

 Ensure the management and scientific integrity of the Institute in
accordance with legal requirements and policies approved by the Board
of Directors


Salary and conditions are commensurate with the high expectations and
responsibilities of the position.
