Applications open on 8 August

Have you put this date in your calendar yet?

The application window for 2017/2018 scholarships will run between 8 August and 8 November 2016. The Chevening website will be updated just before applications open. Once applications open, you can apply at www.chevening.org/apply

Remember that you do not need to start and submit your application all at once. You can save and edit your application throughout the application window, but once submitted it cannot be edited or amended. You must submit your application by 8 November 2016 midday UK time.

We received an incredible number of strong applications last year, but remember, everyone who has ever been selected for Chevening has one thing in common – they applied!

CHOOSING THE RIGHT COURSE

Last year, applicants could choose from almost 14,000 Chevening-eligible courses across over 100 UK universities. However, you only get to select three for your application, therefore it is important to select the three courses that best match your career plan and future aspirations. Here are some top tips to help you choose the right course.

#1 Search and research

Consider the courses that will best match your aspirations. Think about what the institution can offer you in terms of course content, teaching standards, career prospects, and student satisfaction. There are a large number of higher education institutions all around the UK and we encourage all applicants to consider their choices carefully.

By the time applications open, we will have updated our course finder which is programmed to only return courses that are eligible for a Chevening Scholarship.

If you have a query about whether a particular course meets the Chevening requirements you can ask the Chevening Secretariat. However for course-specific queries please refer to the university directly.

#2 Remember the requirements

Chevening funds master’s courses at any UK university, regardless of whether the university is a Chevening Partner or not. Although there are advantages to applying to a Chevening Partner university, you have the option to choose any UK university you want.

Details of the course eligibility criteria can be found here

Please also remember...

1) Even if you already hold an unconditional university offer you will still need to include three courses in your Chevening application.

2) You can choose three different courses at one university, three different courses at three different universities, or three of the same course title at three different universities.

3) Once your application has been submitted, you cannot change your course choices.

THE SELECTION TIMELINE

Applying for a Chevening Scholarship can be like going on a rollercoaster. There's the waiting, the highs, the lows, the anxiety, the laughs, the bonding with your neighbours, and once the ride is over, as exhausted as you may feel, you'll almost certainly wish you could do it all over again!

Chevening applications go through a number of stages throughout the selection process and some of the key dates to be aware of for the 2017/2018 application timeline are found above.

Please note that this timeline is for Chevening Scholarships only. For Chevening Fellowships timelines, please consult the website.

TIME TO SAY GOODBYE (AND HELLO!)

In just under two weeks' time, our current Chevening Scholars will be preparing to say goodbye to the UK and return home. However, not before they have one last opportunity to reflect on their past ten months here, celebrate their personal and collective achivements, connect with their new friends for the last time, and find out what joining Chevening's alumni network entails. All that (plus more!) will happen at the annual Chevening Farewell event.

It will take place at Alexandra Palace in London, and you can follow our coverage of the event on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook on 11 July. The hashtag for the event will be #CheveningMemories.

HELP US CHOOSE THE #CHEVENINGRELAY WINNER!

If you've been following the Chevening Relay batons online, you would have seen that they have been a great tool to encourage scholars to connect with each other and travel around the UK.

Keep up with the batons' whereabouts via the Chevening Relay hashtag on Instagram. Be sure to like your favourite baton photos, as your likes will help select the overall winner, which will be announced at the Farewell event!

Here's a summary of where the red and blue batons have been in recent weeks:
