TIPS ON HOW TO SURVIVE A CROWD RUSH
1. Come up with an exit strategy as soon as you arrive...study the exit locations
2. If you sense the crowd is tightening you are in danger therefore try to ensure there is some space on all of your four sides
3. If you are caught in a crowd rush, keep your hands to your chest and take a boxer's stance - one leg in front of the other...if you keep your arms at your sides you may lose your balance
4. Do not try to resist the force of the crowd...use the surging to your advantage and move with the crowd in the direction of least resistance
5. Prevent yourself from falling...you will be trampled on
6. Remain calm to preserve your energy and oxygen
7. It will not be easy to make a straight line for the exit...you will have to 'weave' as you move in and around people in a zig-zag style, likely in a diagonal direction to the periphery
TIPS ON HOW TO AVOID BEING PICK POCKETED
1. Only take what you need for the event
2. If you must take something:
· Store valuables in your front pocket
· Make sure the valuables are not sticking out and there are no visible bulges
· Don't rummage in your wallet or purse and don't count your money in public
· Carry your backpack on your front or across your chest
· Make sure all the bag zips or purse zips are closed and the bag straps are shortened
· Carry your cellphone close to you at all times
