3rd Annual YPD BLUE Christmas Classic Race for Our Heroes
This Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM the Yarmouth Police Relief Association and the Yarmouth Police Department will host the YPD BLUE Christmas Classic 4.2 Mile Run/Walk, which is the 3rd race in the 2011 Grand Prix Series of fantastic Cape Cod wintertime road races organized by the Cape Cod Athletic Club.
The course is a scenic 4.2 mile route through the rolling hills of the nearby Bayberry Hills golf course walking trails and starts and finishes at the Yarmouth Police Department, One Brad Erickson Way, off of Higgins Crowell Road.
Race registration starts at 10:00 AM, in the Yarmouth Police Department Training Room. The race registration fee is $10 per runner or walker. Registration is on race day only; there is no pre-registration.
Post-race activities will also be held in the Yarmouth Police Department Law Enforcement Training Center and will include refreshments, a police K9 demonstration, and a tour of Yarmouth Police Headquarters. Runners, friends, and family are all welcome to attend.
Parking is available in the public lot at the Yarmouth Police station, and also along the driveway of the Mattacheese Middle School which is adjacent to the police department. Additional parking is available in the school parking lot.
A portion of the proceeds from this race will benefit the Massachusetts Iraq and Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial Fund dedicated to building a permanent memorial in Boston honoring Massachusetts men and women who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and gave their lives in service to our nation and the Wounded Warrior Project on behalf of United States Army Sergeant Christopher Sprague who is the son of Yarmouth Patrol Officer Albert Sprague and his wife Judy and is currently in a military hospital in Texas recovering from serious wounds received in battle in Afghanistan.
The very special run/walk is open to people of all ages and fitness levels and everyone is encouraged to participate.
